D R A F T MINUTES OF THE SIXTY-FOURTH STATED MEETING OF THE HISTORICAL COMMISSION 31 July, 1962 Present were: Mr. Harry A. Batten, Chairman Pro Tem Dr. Roy Franklin Nichols Mr. George K. Trautwein Mr. R. Norris Williams, II. Also present: Mr. Philip Carroll, representing Commissioner Corleto Mr. Harry G. McDowell, Deputy Director of Finance Dr. Margaret B. Tinkcom, Historian Mrs. Charles J. Maurer, Secretary All actions mentioned herein, unless otherwise stated, were taken after motions properly presented, seconded and carried. THE MINUTES for the 26 June Stated Meeting were approved as circulated. REPORTS: The Architectural Committee. Mr. Trautwein's Report was approved as read. Action taken concerned approval given to Mrs. Maurer's signature on letters resulting from the Architectural Committee Meeting. The Commission's Activities. Dr. Tinkcom's Report was approved. Action on this Report is as follows: The five houses in the 2600 block, Cabot Street may be demolished inasmuch as the Federal Housing agency does not find it feasible to preserve them. A letter to Mr. William A. Day, Old Philadelphia Development Corporation, is to be sent, regarding the value and possible use of the Morris Brewery vaults, located behind Old St. Paul's Church. Information on Germantown's certified buildings is to be offered to Wright, Andrade, Amenta and Gane. Both Reports were ordered to be filed with official copies of the Minutes. OLD BUSINESS Finances for 1963. Mr. Carroll reported that the memorandum to the Finance Department regarding the Commission's request for an additional $5,000 for research for 1963, 1964 has been approved and is now being reviewed by the Mayor. Both Mr. Carroll and Mr. McDowell report that the additional $750.00 requested for this year will not be forthcoming. 1035 Spruce Street. Mr. Batten will see Mr. Bodine as soon as possible, taking with him photographs of the interior of this mansion. He will also speak to Mr. Lammer about its preservation. No action was taken, pending these two conferences. NEW BUSINESS 232 South Third Street. Submission was approved. It was also approved that Mr. Trautwein have authority to act on architectural matters until the next Stated Meeting. There being no further business, the Meeting was adjourned at 4:30 P.M.
