MINUTES OF THE ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE MEETING 21 September, 1962 Present were: Mr. George K. Trautwein, Chairman Mr. R. Norris Williams, II. Also present: Mr. John F. Lloyd, for the Redevelopment Authority Dr. Margaret B. Tinkcom, Historian Mrs. Charles J. Maurer, Secretary SUBMISSIONS 229 Spruce Street. The second drawing, incorporating recommendations of the July meeting, were approved. 320 Delancey Street. The detailed, working drawings were approved. 119 Pine Street. Preliminary drawings. The architect shall be asked to pay careful attention to the dormer window; he is referred to that of 125 Pine for details. He shall be asked to widen the first storey windows to correspond to those of the second storey, which means the shutters will touch. It is also recommended that the arch of the doorway be flatter and attention called to houses on the east side of Fourth above Spruce, which, though on a grander scale, have fanlights of proper shape. The shutters should be panelled similar to the door. 228 Pine Street. The owner is referred to the Redevelopment Authority for future treatment of the east wall. A copy of the Commission's requirements for pointing brick is to be enclosed with the letter. Permission for a triplot dormer window in the rear is given and the owner told that a permit is obligatory for all work before it may be continued. 1043, 1045 Lombard Street. The chimnies are to be the same size as they are at present, the brickwork identical and the chimnies are to be topped in their present, original style. 1327 Lombard Street. The Committee expressed satisfaction that the original openings are to be preserved, agreeing that the one large window on the west facade can be made smaller in the interest of symmetry. Window frames should be identical to those on the front elevation. The plan is approved. 318 S. American Street. It is confirmed that the drawing submitted shows the door as it was originally. 123 Pine Street. Mr. Lloyd brought preliminary drawings to the attention of the Committee, which asks for details on muntons, shutters and door and recommends that there be shutters on all floors. PLAQUES requested 208 S. Fourth Street. Denied as this is a partial restoration only. 625 Spruce Street. The Commission accepts the present frontispiece as an 1840 alteration. The recently erected pent eave is inconsistent with the period; the bricked up cornice is entirely wrong. A plaque is denied. OLD ST. PAUL'S, 225 South Third Street. It is recommended that the Commission accept, as a temporary measure, the recently completed rough-casting, with the hope that the entire fabric will ultimately be fully restored.
