Nicholas, Chairman Mr. Williams Dr. Tinkccom The following properties in Fairmount Park are recommended for certification: Tom Moore Cottage Arnst Mansion Ohio State Building - Centennial Philadelphia Canoe Club (orig. Robeson property) Hermitage - Wissahickon Park, residence of S. Weir Mitchell Hunting Park Guard house The Commission is asked to consider writing a letter to the Department of Recreation suggesting that the old stone house on the Golf links, 9500-9700 Frankford Ave., be preserved and perhaps used as a games storage house, etc. Five houses in Powelton Village, 206-208, 210-212 N. 33rd St., and 3303 Race St. are recommended for certification pursuant to the request of their owners. Requests have come in for the consideration of the following houses: 1817 S. Vogdes St. c. 1764 44, 46, 48 & 54 E. Haines St. Germantown 2020 N. Broad St. (Russell Conwell's house) The Temple University - Students are interested in the preservation of this house but since the University's development plan calls for its removal, the FHC might prefer not to take action. Some time ago, the National Park Service inquired about the residence of Thomas Eakins (1729 Mt. Vernon Street) and asked the Commission's help in locating this and other houses still standing which were occupied by well-known Philadelphia artists. The Commission has certified 530 Spruce (Thomas Sully); Belfield (W. W. Peale), Eakins house, 1729 Mt. Vernon, survives pretty much in its original condition; and 2020 Bainbridge, Alexander H. Calder's house in 1876; and one of the houses associated with Max Rosenthal, from 1907-1915, at 1615 Wallace have been found to date. It is recommended that all be considered for certification. Ten-houses on Fitzwater Street, 110, 112, 114, 116, 120, 122, 124, 126, 128, 130, are recommended for certification. This area is being improved and these 18th-century houses should not be remodeled without the Commission's approval.
