The question asked is: What is the extent of reconstruction of the front wall? If entire, which the Commission trusts will not be necessary, then it assumes the materials will be identical to the original and that the same openings will be used. Approval is based on the excellent drawing and upon a reply to the question above. The Commission doubts whether the Department of Licenses and Inspections will allow a bedroom on the fourth Floor. 304 Walnut Street. In this preliminary presentation, the treatment of the east wall is not considered; only the interior alterations are reviewed. The Commission looks forward to interior elevations with the hope that it is the intention to complete restore the building, compatible with present day use. 305 S. Third Street. Doorway details are approved. 261 South Fourth Street. Shutter and doorway details are required. 309-317 S. Fourth Street. The Commission does not oppose the alteration but neither does it approve. After several suggestions for the treatment of the entrance, it was recommended that the architect make an appointment to consult Mr. Trautwein in his office. Pennsylvania Hospital, Out-Patient building. Attention was drawn to the dark alterations to this structure, not an original unit of the Hospital, are being made to prepare for the demolition of the building that houses the first operating theatre in the country. Nonetheless, that was not the issue, and the drawings were approved. 249 South 12th Street. It was stressed that the approval for the one large window is based on its remaining only for the duration of the present owner's business activities there. The owner is to be strongly urged to do very careful work in any case. Details are required. PLAQUES REQUESTED 903 Clinton Street. Plaque #254 approved 905 Clinton Street. Plaque #255 approved, both in spite of old stucco. 1020 Clinton Street. Upstairs shutters, louvered to match adjoining house, required. 1013 Spruce Street. Plaque 256 reluctantly approved.
