The Architectural Committee reviewed the owner's revised proposal for alterations to the pool building and agreed to recommend that the Commission approve the plan if the new door opening does not face the street. The club plans on using the floor of the pool for storage thereby requiring the introduction of a door on the exterior at the building at the ground level to allow access to the interior floor level. Germantown Historical Society Library, 5208 Germantown Avenue. The Committee again reviewed the request of the Germantown Historical Society for permission to remove the frame porch on the side of the building and to construct a cinder block, covered with stucco, addition to house the library's rare book collection. The existing window should be converted into a door to allow access to the addition which will be constructed several feet to the rear of the present porch. The Committee recommends that the Board comply with this request and that the Germantown Historical Society be asked to submit measured drawings for the construction of the new addition. 106 Arch Street, Brian Maloney, Draftsman. The Committee reviewed the owner's plan for the reconstruction of the first floor facade of this building and recommended its approval. The members noted that the steps and cheeks of the bulkhead be marble or cast stone and that the gate to the alley be on a straight line so as not to fill the area of the alley, unless the full gate is necessary for security purposes. It should be noted that these alterations do not constitute a complete restoration and that the building cannot be eligible for a plaque at this time. 121 Lombard Street, A. Malloy Mark, A.I.A. The Committee reviewed the architect's plan for the restoration of the Stenton barn and agreed to recommend Commission approval of it. The Committee suggested the installation of Dutch doors on the building and the use of five retardant wood shakes on the roof. The barn, to be restored to its original condition and used as part of an interpretive program at Stenton, is being restored by the Colonial Dames with matching federal funds. Fairmont Park Waterworks. The Committee reviewed and agreed to recommend approval of a request for permission to cut a hole through the floor of one of the buildings to allow visitors to the Water- works to see the turbine engine which will be restored and put into working order. 6110 Germantown Avenue. The Committee recommended that the Commission ask the owner of this certified building to replace the porch railing, which is now deteriorated, in wood, if possible, and not iron, as requested by the owner. 1503 Rosen Street. The Redevelopment Authority's plan for the renovation of this building was reviewed. Commission approval is recommended. 600 South Fifth Street. The Pemberton Street group - Architects. After reviewing the plan, as presented, the Committee made several recommenda- tions and requested a resubmission of the proposal. It was suggested that a box window (similar to those on the east side of Second Street between Pine and Lombard Streets) be installed and that the Fifth Street entrance have a double door with a transom. All sash should be six over six lights. Shutters, on the first floor, are to match the panel on the door; upper floor shutters should be lowered. Finally, the arch at the base to be constructed on the cable end of the building should be of a heavy horizontal frame construction similar to that found at the Hoad House, Third and Walnut Streets. The Committee looks forward to reviewing a resubmission of this proposal. PLAQUES 2619 Locust Street. The Committee asked for additional photographs of the buildings taken from all sides. The Committee agreed to recommend approval of a plaque for this building as soon as an appropriate wood water bar (6" x 6") has been installed to the height of the watertable. 213 Pine Street. The Committee found the window sash and shutters to be inappropriate and agreed that approval of a plaque could not be recommended at this time. Two members of The Ruberton Street Group - Architects to present to the Architectural Committee their plan for the renovation of the building situse at 800 South Fifth Street.
