Maurer, Secretary SUBMISSIONS 257 South Fourth Street. It was recommended that the door have sidelights (see photographs in the office); shutters on windows designed for the side elevation, and that these windows be larger in order to be in scale with the original windows on the front elevation. It was further recommended that no other windows or doors are now standing, that the architect make sure they are the same size as was originally the case, as these will be extremely conspicuous. The front steps must have nosings to match other steps in the row, together with matching ironwork, as indicated. The question is asked if the battlement is correctly drawn it appears to be too low. The Commission will approve the application for a building permit at once for interior work only, pending correction of the above points. 209 Spruce Street. The preliminary drawing is approved and the architect complimented for his handsome rendering. When working drawings are submitted, a side elevation will be required, on which the chimneys in correct position and proportions must be indicated. 129, 131, 133 Pine Street. The question is asked if the dormer of 133 is original, and whether you are planning to keep it. A firm statement on this point is required. Otherwise, the architectural drawing is approved with warm commendation. PROBLEMS 209 Spruce Street. It was the concensus that the query about the present cellar door can be answered only by the architect who prepared the approved plans. 425 Spruce Street. It was recommended that the Commission accept the builder's opinion that there was not frontispiece there, because the existing evidence is in conflict with the belief that so handsome a house must at one time have had a handsome frontispiece. It was recommended, however, that the horse-drawn vehicle-type lamp, as indicated in the drawing, be replaced with something more appropriate. 226, 228 South Fourth Street. It was recommended that the query as to whether a part of the backbuildings could be demolished be reviewed when plans for the restoration of these buildings are submitted. The Commission is not in favor of a planter unless it be constructed at sidewalk level, not obstructing the cellar windows. In any case, approval must be obtained from the Department of Streets. 627 Pine Street. It was the consensus that the Commission cannot ask for a variance to have the wall built seven feet high. This is beyond its jurisdiction. PLAQUES 220 Delancey Street. Request for a plaque is approved. 729 South 9th Street. Request for a plaque is denied until approved shutters are hung and the six over six sash installed. 417 South Juniper Street. Property must be inspected by Mr. Peterson before an opinion is possible. 636 Spruce Street. The request for a plaque is approved. 340 South 12th Street. The request f or a plaque is denied because the approved drawings have not been carried out adequately. An Award of Merit is, however, recommended. 108 Elfreth's Alley. The request for a plaque is approved. 913, 915, 917 Clinton Street. It is recommended that when Venetian shutters have been hung at the upper windows, the request for three plaques will be approved. 226 South Third Street. The request

Other circumstances, however, made the approval stand. 329 South Third Street. When the work has been completed, the request must be made again.. The Chairman pro tem, exhibited full size drawings of details of 300 Delancey Street with the comment that this is the first time such drawings have been prepared for any certified building in the area.
