THE MINUTES OF THE ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE MEETING, 20 March 1969 Present: Mr. John F. Lloyd, Acting Chairman Mr. Richmond P. Miller, for the Commission Mr. Erling H. Pedersen, Old Philadelphia Development Corp. Mr. Margaret B. Tinkcom, Historian Mrs. Charles J. Maurer, Secretary SUBMISSIONS 770-772 S. Front Street, Joseph Praiseman, AIA. The new "gatehouse" was approved. 802 Lombard Street, Carlos S. Smith, AIA. Window sash must be 6/9 to match windows of 804 Lombard Street; glass sizes must also be the same. Verify window positions to correspond with those at 804, having the lintels and that of the door on one level. Use details identical to the moldings at 804. Confirm agreement to this by letter. 904 Pine Street, Nick James Chimes, AIA. The drawings were commended and the consent noted that the Historical Commission prefers that louvered shutters be used above the first story. Approved. 600 Spruce Street. A better drawing is required and new floor plans are needed due to demolition of the backbuilding. Original window and door positions must be maintained on the south facade. Call the arched vent over the back door. 1328 Redman Street, Angelo Romani, builder. Rear elevation must be re-studied and resubmitted. The present drawing is unacceptable. The Commission advises the builder to engage an architect or draftsman familiar with the architecture of the period for resubmission. 419-421 S. Second Street, A. DeRoy Mark, AIA. Quit the cornice and entablature; restore original bolt course. Redesign the lower story in the Philadelphia idiom with doorways and windows of residential type. Measure the 2nd and 3d story window to determine muntin thickness and glass sizes. Replace voussoirs over the new windows on the first floor to match all others in size and quality. 5139 Germantown Avenue, Allen Stern, owner. It was determined that during the present ownership no further alterations are to be made to the original fabric. This means that the proposed pentative shall not be erected, but rather that the present 19th century entablature of metal should remain unchanged. New windows may be installed to replace the bulk windows removed without a permit. PROBLEM: 713 Walnut Street. Mr. Lloyd reviewed the case against the owner, brought into court by the Department of Licenses and Inspections, saying that Judge Greenberg had ordered the Historical Commission to make specific recommendations regarding this buildings restoration. PLAQUES REQUESTED 512 Cypress Street, John Burrist, AIA. Approved. ADDENDUM SW Corner, 4th and Arch Streets, the Provost Smith House.
