HISTORIC VALUES COMMITTEE met January 26, 1965, at 3:00 p.m. Present: Dr. Nichols, Chairman; Mr. Williams; and Mrs. Tinkcom. 1. The following properties were considered for certification: 440 Spruce Street St. James the Less, Clearfield & Hunting Park Ave. 710, 712 S. Front Street Houses on both north & south sides of Beck Street between Front & Third Sts. 9501 Germantown Avenue 2. The possibility of authorizing plaques for Powelton Village was again considered at the request of the Civic Association of that area. It was agreed that plaques should not be approved for this area now. 3. Dr. Nichols proposed that the Philadelphia Historical Commission authorize Mr. Simon to write to the Secretary of Highways, Mr. Harral, in support of the proposed contract 60% architectural salvage to be entered into by the University of Pennsylvania and the State Highway Department. The Committee approved Dr. Nichols' suggestion that a number of knowledgeable and interested persons meet to discuss criteria for certifying 19th century buildings. George Tatum; James Massey, HABS; Theo. White; William Grant of West Philadelphia Corporation; John Bower of Bower & Fradley; and the members of this Committee will be invited to attend.
