MINUTES OF THE ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE OF THE PHILADELPHIA HISTORICAL COMMISSION 21 December, 1967 Present: Mr. George K. Trautwein, Chairman Mr. Richmond P. Miller Mr. John F. Maurer, Secretary SUBMISSIONS 221 Pine Street. Approved as submitted. 518 Delancey Street. Approved as submitted. 320 Arch Street, Friends' Meeting House. The preliminary submission for an addition to the rear of this structure is approved and the demolition of non-original additions, together with the indicated interior alterations. Working drawings are required. 328 Lombard Street. Approved. Third floor shutters are not to be hung, as per survey and louvered shutters are strongly recommended for the second floor. 496 City Hall. Approved if the partitions are to be free standing in order that the handsome panels sustain no damage. 520 Spruce Street. Approved as submitted 340 S. 4th Street. Approved as submitted 335 S. 6th Street. This submission is rejected as inadequate. 119 Pine Street. This is a preliminary submission and as such is approved. The Commission contends that the side door is justified but the penteave is not appropriate to the age of this house and should be eliminated. The entrance should be correct for the 1829 period. A stucaito garden wall, six feet high and recessed the width of one brick back of the building line is preferred to that as shown. 352 S. 4th Street. The Commission sympathizes with the loss of the gate and other elements of wrought iron and reluctantly permits changes as indicated on a second set of drawings. 235 Queen Street. This resubmission is approved. 600 Spruce Street. This resubmission is approved. PROBLEMS. 423 Spruce Street. See letter from Mr. Pedersen to Mrs. C. Jared Ingersoll, copy attached. Also copy of a letter from Mr. Lloyd Architectural Committee Minutes 12.21.67 Page 2 PROBLEMS continued 423 Spruce cont. to Mr. Fred R. Wentzel, also attached. Both architects agreed that the restoration is acceptable if not perfect. 304 S. 2nd Street. Mr. Lloyd reported that this poorly restored structure is for sale but that the Redevelopment Authority has to approve the new owner and will require him to agree to correct the present errors. A letter from the architect was read, explaining a change in direction for the rear fire escape. After some dis- cussion, Mr. Lloyd agreed to discuss the matter with Mr. Magazine and to report to the Committee. PLAQUES REQUESTED 527 Pine Street. This was approved. Plaque No. 288 was assigned. 804 Lombard Street. At the request of the attorney for the owners, review of this request was postponed until shutters are hung at the first floor windows.
