Pedersen for Old Philadelphia Development Corp. Dr. Margaret B. Tinkcom, Historian Mrs. Charles J. Maurer, Secretary SUBMISSIONS 346-48 S. Fourth Street, a resubmission for details of moldings. The architect shall be commended for having submitted the material requested but shall be reminded that he must copy the existing window frames wherever new frames are required. He was, therefore, to be asked to send a detail of the window frame and sash in three quarter scale, showing muntins adequate for 8 x 10 inch lights. When he submits a full set of working drawings, an explanation of the new third story year windows is required, with particular emphasis on what seems to be their superstructure. In all other aspects the drawing is approved. 338 S. Fourth Street. It is understood that the clapboard addition has been deleted. The Commission needs a statement to this effect and a side elevation showing this should accompany the statement. In all other points the drawing, for alterations to the interior of this building, is approved. 235 Queen Street. The Commission understands that the removal of the rear chimney is proposed and that the curtain wall between the two chimneys will be eliminated. The Historical Commission cannot permit this alteration to the original fabric, since it will make a drastic change in the building's profile as seen from the street. Another drawing is requested, showing the east facade and the existing chimneys preserved and the dormers restudied. Shutters of correct design are strongly recommended, panelled on the first floor, louvered above, as shown in the old photograph furnished by Octavia Hill Association some time ago. PROBLEMS 423 Spruce Street. It was resolved that a letter be written to the owner, drawing his attention to variations between the approved drawings and the resulting dormer window. Dr. Tinkcom suggested that Mrs. Maurer be authorized to visit sites where restoration is in progress at least once a week. The poor workmanship of the dormer of 423 Spruce Street was used as an example to illustrate the need for frequent reports on work in progress. After lengthy discussion, this was approved. This was approved A letter from Mr. Briton Martin, regarding 212, 218 and 220 S. Fourth Street,was read by the Chairman, in which Mr. Martin requested an opportunity to appear before the committee to explore the Contributionship's use of these certified buildings. It was resolved that Mr. Martin be invited to attend the meeting on 21 December. This was approved. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:30 P.M.
