D R A F T ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE MEETING 26 May 1966 Present were: Mr. George K. Trautwein, Chairman Mr. John F. Lloyd for the Redevelopment Authority Mr. Erling H. Pedersen for Old Philadelphia Corporation Dr. Margaret B. Tinkcom, Historian Mrs. Charles J. Maurer, Secretary SUBMISSIONS: 300 S. Second Street. Approved. Working drawings with profiles expected 307 South Third Street. An excellent drawing, but the Commission questions the authenticity of the coroway. Details of this need restudy as do the details of the corner window. The Commission will try to supply correct design of the doorway. Another drawing is required. 339 South Sixth Street. This is approved. Drawings exceptional. 241 Delancey Street. Interior alterations only, and a small addition in the rear. This is approved. 535 Spruce Street. It was recommended that the window as designed (to replace a store front) would be better if it were five lights wide and four high, as per rough sketch by Mr. Pedersen. Doors should be solid and paneled with moldings appropriate for the period. Another drawing is required. 223 Pine Street. This preliminary drawing shows a mixture of periods. It is recommended that the entire facade be rebuilt with gutted roof and all details typical of the 1765 period, or that the building be restored to the 1860 period of which some details remain. If the latter, then a single window with four lights across would be appropriate. Another drawing is required. 518 Pine Street. This is approved with a question regarding the precise sizes of the glass. Mr. Lloyd commented that this is an unusually good house having very little interior alterations, except at the rear. 1110 Pine Street. The cornice for the new store window is too elaborate. Copy the approved window at 1030 Pine Street precisely. Another drawing is needed. 322 Lombard Street. The works preliminary drawing is acceptable, but working drawings must show the relationship of profiles drawn to the building and must be in scale. It is recommended that the one window be composed of 8 x 10 glass, eight lights over twelve, consistent with that at 520 Lombard St. The straight pent is questioned; should it not be a cove pent? 324 Lombard Street. Same requirement as to relationship of mouldings to building and of the same scale. A plaster cove is recommended. Otherwise approved. Working drawings are expected. 5275 Germantown Avenue. This preliminary drawing is approved

Lombard St. The straight pent is questioned; should it not be a cove pent? 324 Lombard Street. Same requirement as to relationship of mouldings to building and of the same scale. A plaster cove is recommended. Otherwise approved. Working drawings are expected. 5275 Germantown Avenue. This preliminary drawing is approved with a question as to whether the steps as shown were originally there, or were they straight ? QUEEN VILLAGE. Mr. Madway defined this as enclosed by Bainbridge and Wharton Streets; from the River to Sixth Street. Mr. Trautwein reviewed the policy established by the Historical Commission for this pilot project, wherein the rehabilitation of certified buildings could be done for a price moderate income purchasers could [HANDWRITTEN NOTES: "works" appears to be handwritten or marked over in the 322 Lombard Street entry, though it is difficult to determine with certainty from the image quality.] Architectural Committee meeting 6.26.66 Page 2 QUEEN VILLAGE continued afford. The Chairman reported on his inspection of 212 Carpenter Street and 105 Pemberton Street, about which report had been made to the Commission that the new facades bore no relationship to other buildings adjacent to them. Mr. Madway stated that at 212 Carpenter Street the first floor windows are or equal size with all others, which is indeed an error; that the contractor agreed it was his error and he would correct this. What appeared to be an error at 105 Pemberton Street had a logical explanation which was accepted. Mr. Madway was thanked for taking the trouble to come to the meeting and asked to accept apologies from the committee. PLAQUES REQUESTED Arch Street Presbyterian Church, 18th & Arch Streets . Approved and Plaque No. 95 authorized. 123 Pine Street. Approved. The letter shall state that when a photograph 5 x 7" is available the Commission would appreciate having it for the file. The enclosed color print is temporarily acceptable. 620 Spruce Street. Approved now that all shutters are in place. Proposed metal sign for 217 Spruce Street. Mr. Pederson's letter of explanation and the sign itself was referred to the Stated Meeting. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:15 P. M. Respectfully submitted [signature] George Kl Trautwein, Chairman [HANDWRITTEN NOTES: Signature at center bottom of page (above "George Kl Trautwein, Chairman"), appearing to be initials or abbreviated signature in cursive script.]
