Lloyd, for the Redevelopment Authority Mr. Joseph B. Townsend, Jr., for the Old Philadelphia Development Corporation Mrs. Charles J. Maurer, Secretary SUBMISSIONS 239 South Third Street. It was recommended that the plans be approved; that the decision regarding shutters be left for a later date. 272 South Third Street. It was resolved that the plans be approved with the recommendation that there be two panelled shutters at the third floor level, not three. 235 South Third Street. It was recommended that the plans be approved but that the draftsman be allowed to copy a sheet of the robbery drawings for details of shutters. Those shown are not sufficiently accurate in relation to the hardware. Odl St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, South Fourth Street. It was resolved that the drawing be approved as submitted. 128 Delancey Street. It was recommended that the plans be approved and notice of this sent to Mr. James Rementer at the Federal Housing Administration office. 427 Spruce Street. It was resolved that the plans be approved. PROBLEMS Preston Retreat. The secretary reported on a telephone conversation with Mr. Philip Carroll, and a letter received from Mr. Bacon. Mr. Trautwein commented that the building would lend itself well to educational use; that it is in good condition. He hopes it will be preserved. It was resolved that the matter be referred to the Stated Meeting with the recommendation that no action be taken pending action by the City Planning Commission. NOTE: A copy of Mr. Trautwein's report has been sent to Mr. Bacon's office. The Poe House, 530-532 North 7th Street. It was approved that the passage which was between 532 and 534 (now demolished) be filled in as indicated by the Redevelopment Authority, but that old brick be used at either end that precisely matches existing brick. Inasmuch as the shutters are not only in- adequate but are not in good condition similar to those for which approval was formerly given, it was resolved that a letter be written to the Society Hill Buildings, calling attention to this defect and asking that the shutters be corrected. 312 South Second Street. It was resolved that the demolition of this building — a compromise, in that four houses were to have been torn down, but now are not to be - be made the subject of protest for the record, even though it will be unable to save the building. Stafford's Tavern. It was resolved that a letter be sent to the De- partment of Licenses and Inspections, asking their careful consideration of the approved plans, on the grounds that this is to become a museum authentic in every detail, and that the owners are making extraordinary effort to reach this end. 257 South Fourth Street. It was resolved that the third story windows must be made to match the other third story windows in that group, which have not been altered. PLAQUES 304 Cypress Street. If Mr. Lloyd approves the restoration when he views it, a plaque will be authorized. 514 Delancey Street. The record reveals that no plans have been submitted and no building permit issued for alterations. These steps must first be taken before the application for a plaque can be authorized. 240 South Quince Street. It was recommended that an Award of Merit be given, rather than a plaque, as alterations were made before the Com- mission certified Building . 417 South Juniper Street. It was resolved that the owner be asked to notify the Commission when the work is complete, at which time a repre- sentative from the Commission will view the finished work. It was noted that the house was in poor condition when the work was begun and that the owner has tried, against unusual odds, to make the building worthy of a plaque.
