The Commission will not oppose the requirement that the doors be made to open out rather than in, since this is a public building. It requested, however, that plans for the interior be submitted to this Commission for review and that there be taken that all existing original interior trim be preserved. A sketch of the handrails to be used must also be submitted 308 Lombard Street, George B. Roberts, Architect. This submission was given preliminary approval. The Committee requires, however that the sash be nine-over-nine and that a set of working drawings and a full set of details be submitted for review. 228 Monroe Street, Nick James Chimes. Approved with the recommendation that the shutters be identical to those submitted for 722 S. Front Street and that glass size be further investigated. 722 S. Front Street, Nick James Chimes. Approved. 336 S. Second Street. Approved with the recommendation that the windows be the same on the first, second and third floors (for glass size). Details of moldings and profiles to be submitted 415-421 S. Perth Street. Details, as requested, are now approved. (Eric Thorpe) 225-227 Spruce Street, John A. Bower. This final submission approved. 225 Pine Street, G. H. Konalstein. This submission was given approval as a preliminary proposal. Windows on the third floor should be six over six, not as drawn. The Commission sympathizes with the owner and made two suggestions for total restoration, each of which would merit a plaque if correctly followed: The building to remain as an example of mid-nineteenth century style; or, restored to its original 1791 period. This would require removal of the present front and case in the choice of brick and mortar to match brick then current. These requirements were outlined in the contract between the owner and the Redevelopment Authority and the Commission is at a loss to account for the mis-understanding that has occurred. It was suggested that owner comply with the request from the Department of Licenses and Inspections in view of this being a fraternity house where members sleep. The safety of the people is the Commission's first concern in this matter. 301 Pine Street. The solution proposed by Mrs. Segal that the non- original backbuilding be demolished and a new fire tower erected to serve all three floors was approved. 272-74 S. Second Street, the Samuel Neave H use. The Commission asked that a letter be sent to the architect, Carl Massara, asking why there has been a deviation from his approved drawing with regard to the size and number of lights per sash. PLAQUES REQUESTED 538 and 540 Spruce Street. Approved 326 S. Twelfth Street. The Commission suggests that the owner be re- minded that the plaque is given for a full restoration only; but because of the good condition of the structure, an award of merit will be presented upon request. 279 S.
