Patricia Siedlutowski, Executive Assistant to the Chairman. SUBMISSIONS 530 North Seventh Street (Edgar Allan Poe House), John Lloyd, Architect. The Committee reviewed Mr. Lloyd's proposal for the restoration of the Poe House and the adjoining building at 532 North Seventh Street. Mr. Lloyd was contacted by telephone concerning the design of the door at 530 which the Committee thought was inappropriate to the Victorian character of the house. It was pointed out by Mr. Lloyd that the use of another door had been agreed upon but that the elevation had not been changed to conform. The Committee voted to recommend the approval of this project upon submission to the staff of a corrected elevation. 1117 Lombard Street, Roland C. Daviss, Architect. Approval of this restoration proposal is recommended. 402 (404) South Front Street, Roland C. Daviss, Architect. The Committee reviewed Mr. Daviss' submission for the restoration of the building at 402 South Front Street and found it to be unacceptable. It was suggested that the architect be directed to review the information in the Commission files for more accurate information on the design of the complete frontispiece, watertable and shutters for the front facade. It was also noted that the chimneys appeared to be too small. In addition the Committee suggested a restudy of the party wall fenestration and the repair and repointing, rather than stuccoing, of the rear brick garden walls. Finally, a restudy of the rear dormer proposal is requested. Given the number of suggested changes to the original proposal, it is suggested that the architect appear before the Committee to present his resubmission. 2201 Walace Street, Elizabeth Lawson, Architect. Approval of this renovation proposal is recommended. The building will not be eligible for a "Certified Restored" plaque since the proposed alterations do not constitute a complete restoration of the building to its original appearance. The Committee found the submission for alterations to the entrance stairs at 701-11 North Eighth Street inadequate and recommended a resubmission to include a plan of the steps, a frontal and side elevation specifying the type of building materials to be used and a detail of the railing. The Committee suggested that a residential stair be employed. The rail should be executed in wrought iron having six inch spacing with two uprights per tread. The facing of the stairs and the treads must be either marble or pre-cast stone. Finally, a suggestion to close the basement windows if they fall behind the stairs was made. This would eliminate the open well since it would allow the stair to be placed flush with the front wall. The Committee thought that an architectural consultant would be helpful in planning a resubmission and suggested that one be retained. A representative familiar with the project should be present when the resubmission is made to answer any questions which the Committee might have concerning this project. Burholme Mansion and Carriage House, Day and Zimmerman, Architects. This submission was enthusiastically received by the Committee. Its approval is recommended. 8-10 South Smith Street, Zimmer Associates, Architects. The Committee reviewed this proposal and recommended the submission of a more detailed drawing. PLAQUES 2002 Spruce Street. A plaque cannot be awarded to this building because of the deteriorating brownstone facade, the presence of exterior storm sash on the building front and an inappropriate entrance door. 608 South Front Street. The Committee agreed that this building cannot receive a "Certified Altered" plaque since the alterations made to the building are current ones and thus do not conform with the concept of the "Altered" plaque.
