THE MINUTES of the Stated Meeting, 6 October 1977, F. Otto Haas, Chairman. Mr. Pinkowski noted that recent newspaper accounts reported the Paramount Park Art Association as being the contributor of the $7500.00 for the refurbishing of the cast-iron facade at 2124-44 North Delaware Avenue. In view of this, Mr. Pinkowski asked that it be entered into the minutes of this Meeting. There being no further additions or corrections to the October minutes, they were approved and directed to be filed. REPORTS The Report of the Architectural Committee for 19 October 1977, Herbert W. Levy, A.I.A., Chairman. At the request of Mr. Levy, the Chairman's Executive Assistant asked that two changes be made to the Report of the Architectural Committee for 19 October. Under the section relating to the buildings situate at 701-11 North Eighth Street, Mr. Levy asked that the suggestion for a residential design refer to the "stair rail" rather than the "stair." Also he asked that a statement be added noting the inconsistency in proposed construction materials specified on the drawing. Recommendations by the Staff for the Certification of Buildings, Richard Tyler, Historian. There were no recommendations to be made this month. Report on Historical Commission Staff Activities for the month of October, Richard Tyler, Historian. Dr. Tyler's report was approved and directed to be filed with the official copy of the Minutes. Owing to the rejection by the Society Hill Civic Association of all compromise solutions proposed by Pennsylvania Hospital for the retention of the Spruce Street buildings and the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Redevelopment Authority and

Owing to the rejection by the Society Hill Civic Association of all compromise solutions proposed by Pennsylvania Hospital for the retention of the Spruce Street buildings and the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Redevelopment Authority and the Advisory Council, the structures will soon be demolished. The hospital's willingness to keep the buildings and to build a new structure behind them proved unacceptable to the civic association who would agree only to their sale and private development as residences. Prior to demolition photographs and/or measured drawings of Historic American Building Survey quality will be submitted by the Redevelopment Authority in accordance with the memorandum of agreement. In addition, the Commission also allows the retrieval of any fabric from these buildings by the Historical Commission. After some discussion, a motion was made to inform the Redevelopment Authority that the Commission would not salvage any of the building fabric since it had neither the means to do so nor a place to store the materials. Barbara Liggett suggested that the Commission consider the possibility of collecting some architectural elements for display as part of an exhibit on Philadelphia buildings.
