MINUTES OF THE ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE MEETING, 22 October, 1964 Present were: Mr. George K. Trautwein, Chairman Mr. R. Norris Williams, II. Also present: Mr. John F. Lloyd for the Redevelopment Authority Mr. Erling H. Pedersen, for Old Phila. Development Corp. Dr. Margaret B. Tinkcom, Historian Mrs. Charles J. Maurer, Secretary SUBMISSIONS 112 Delancey Street. Approved on a preliminary basis. 521 Spruce Street. Approved with commendation on a good presentation 251 South 9th Street. It was recommended that the existing arch head door with its three-part fanlight and straight muntins be retained; that the arch head be restored to the dormer window, as shown in an old photograph. The shutters and door mouldings approved as drawn. It was recommended that the air conditioner be installed in a cellar window, with a register-type vent above it, as being preferable to the present position below the first storey window. Otherwise the submission is approved. PROBLEMS 611 Lombard Street. It was approved that the backbuilding os this may be demolished. 260 South Third Street. Work is in progress, or is already accomplished, without a permit. Mr. Lloyd agreed to look into the matter. 1225 Pine Street. It was agreed that the present cornice should be re- tained when the roof is repaired. The owner is to be urged to confer with the Redevelopment Authority before beginning work. St. Luke and the Epiphany. It was recommended that the request to afix a cross on the gable be turned down on the ground that the Greek Revival churches, of which this is such an excellent example, were not intended to be adorned with a cross and, architecturally speaking, are complete without one. Since it is the Commission's responsibility to see that the integrity of the building is maintained it is recom- mended that no cross be added. Window boxes &c., on S. Quinice Street. They may remain provided they are well maintained. Plaques 514 Delancey Street. A plaque is authorized at the request of the new owner, but it shall be noted that an earlier request was turned down because no plans for the restoration of this building had been sub- mitted to the Commission. However, since the work is correct, it was agreed that the new owner should not be penalized for the irregular aditions of the former owner. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
