MINUTES OF THE ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE MEETING 19 September 1963 Present were: Mr. Trautwein, Chairman Mr. Charles E. Peterson Mr. H. Norris Williams, II. Also present: Mr. Lloyd for the Redevelopment Authority Miss Eileen Linton, owner of 228 Spruce Street Mr. W. Nelson Anderson, her architect Dr. Margaret B. Tinkcom, Historian Mrs. Charles J. Maurer, Secretary PROBLEMS 228 Spruce Street. Mr. Anderson stated that when his plans for the restoration of this building were drawn in 1960, no evidence existed to prove whether a cover or a soffit type pent had been part of the original fabric. He agreed to study the Cuthbert Street houses and to report on the framing of the cove pent there at the next meeting. Miss Linton made a clear statement that she wanted the restoration to be correct. The matter is carried over to a future meeting. 530 Pine Street. It was recommended that the owner submit a drawing showing all details required for a full restoration, but that, for the present, the minimal requirements toward a full restoration that will meet the specifications of the Redevelopment Authority will be accepted by the Historical Commission 312 South Philip Street. It was recommended that the owner view the door of 326 Lombard Street and have a drawing made of that or of 210 Spruce. Shutters are to match. It was also recommended that a copy of the 1830 details as presented by Mr. G. A. Robbins be made available to the owner or architect. 321 South Fourth Street. This problem was not discussed, but was referred to the Stated Meeting. SUBMISSIONS 313 Spruce Street. It was recommended that door and shutter panels be similar to those of 309 Spruce Street and that there be side lights to the door. 430 Spruce Street. It was recommended that it be stated that the Historical Commission prefers the conventional two windows at the first floor level, but will allow the one large window, as submitted, with the understanding that a plaque will not be authorized until the house is fully restored. It was further recommended that there be outside shutters, Venetian type to the second floor and no shutters at the third level unless evidence exists to show they once hung there. Panels for the door shall be the same as those of 326 Lombard Street. 129 Pine Street. Plans were approved as submitted. Architectural Minutes, 19 September 1964

Preliminary drawing of the exterior was approved with the recommendation that the shutters on the west façade be panelled, not loubered. 232 South Third Street; 257 South Fourth Street; 209 Spruce Street. Brick veneer walls to be erected by the Redevelopment Authority were approved for these three buildings, with the understanding that the brick and bond will match the front walls in each case and with regret that the air conditioning vents on the east wall of 209 Spruce go so conspicuous 707 Spruce Street. Interior work only is to be approved with emphasis on a direction that present window sash is to be repaired, not replaced. 1118 Pine Street. It was approved that the owner may duplicate (though not precisely in every detail, such as glass size) the window he designed and executed for 1120 Pine Street. A free hand drawing is the least the Commission will accept as a submission for the file. 326 Lombard Street. The preliminary drawing was approved. The Academy of Music. After some discussion, the matter was referred to the Stated Meeting for consideration of all the Members. PLAQUES 232 Delancey Street. It was recommended that a plaque be authorized now that the restoration is complete. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:45 P.M. Respectfully submitted George K.
