MINUTES OF THE ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE of the PHILADELPHIA HISTORICAL COMMISSION 17 June 1969 Present: Mr. John F. Lloyd, Acting Chairman, representing the Redevelopment Authority Mr. Richmond P. Maurer, Executive Assistant Patricia Siemiontkowski, Secretary SUBMISSIONS 309 South Third Street. Hugh Zimmers, Architect. The preliminary drawing for the restoration of this house was approved. The Commission agreed that the door on the first floor facade should be painted and that the first floor windows should be narrower. Before final approval can be given, working drawings with details must be reviewed by the Commission. 329 South Third Street. A. DeRoy Mark, Architect. This submission was approved even though there is a discrepancy between this and J. Fish's drawing with regard to the floor level. 224, 226, 228 South Seventh Street. Benjamin Martin, Architect. The Commission approves the proposals for the restoration of these properties. RESUBMISSIONS 273 South Fourth Street (doorway only). J. E. Bugary, Owner and Architect. The doorway submission was approved. 523 Cypress Street. John Burris, Architect. The Commission will not permit the use of a planter and also recommends shutters and a panel door in keeping with the period of the building. Other than this, the drawing was approved. DEMOLITION 1622 Locust Street. Beryl Price, Architect. The Commission vigorously objects to the demolition of this fine building. It was suggested that to make the fourth floor usable, a fire tower be added in the rear of the building as has been done in other instances, notably the Perelman Toy Museum, 212-74 South Second Street and the Eakins House, 1729 Mount Vernon Street, to insure the preservation of the building. PLAQUES 707 Spruce Street. Approved.
