24 April, 1961 Report of the Architectural Committee Meeting, 21 April, 1961 Present were: Mr. George K. Trautwein, Chairman Mr. R. Norris Williams, II. Mr. John F. Lloyd Dr. Margaret B. Tinkcom Mrs. Charles J. Maurer Submissions: 126 Elfreth's Alley. It was recommended that the Committee make no comment, inasmuch as the exterior has already been approved at a former meeting and the interior work, now before the Commission requires no comment. 229 Pine Street. It was recommended that the owner omit shutters, and install six over six window sash; that upper panels of the old door, now containing glass, should be restored to match the lower panels, unless evidence can be justified to make them differ as is indicated in the drawing. The owner is to be told that the Committee will be glad to know of his findings. 401 South Third Street. It was recommended that the architect be asked for a better interpretation of the front door, with particular reference to the arch, which now appears to rest on the side lights. 304 South Philip Street. It was recommended that the drawing for the door be approved. 225-227 Delancey Street. It was recommended that the present lintels of the two doors remain as they are. The drawing will be accepted and approved if this is what the architect intends to convey. The corrected drawing of the proposed ironwork is approved. 1011 Spruce Street. It is mcommended that the owner retain the present architrave, changing only the door, according to the drawing submitted. The Committee notes that the owner has agreed to add shutters to the third floor. It was also racommended that he not be asked to remove the paint. 242, 244 Delancey Street. It was recommended that the variation between the two houses is not objectionable and may remain. If the owner of 244 wishes to follow the design of the cornice of 242, this may be approved without further delay. It was the consensus that the differing treatment of the siding on the dormers presents no problem. 255 Pine Street. The owner's letter asks about roofing material. It is recommended that Mr. Lloyd's suggestion to her be followed, suggesting the omission of the words "roofing paper". The meeting was adjourned at 4:50 P. M.
