Unless otherwise noted, all action taken herein is the result of motions correctly made, seconded and carried. THE MINUTES of the Stated Meeting, 6 March 1975, were approved and directed to be filed. REPORTS The Report of the Architectural Committee for 18 March 1975 was approved by the Commission and directed to be filed with the official copy of the Minutes. Nominations for the Certification of Buildings, Dr. Richard Tyler, Historian. William Devlin appeared before the Historical Commission to present his request for the certification of the building situated at 8301 Algon Avenue. The Commission members reviewed the photographs and material submitted by Mr. Devlin and agreed to table the matter until such time as the staff can research the building further and prepare a report on its historical and architectural significance. Mr. Tyler reported to the Board on the status of the Spring Garden Civic Association proposal for the certification of buildings within the Spring Garden area. It was suggested that certification of the blocks east of Twentieth Street be delayed until the neighborhood residents could be apprised of the implications of certification. The Board agreed to table further certification in the Spring Garden area upon Mr. Tyler's suggestion. OLD BUSINESS There were no matters to be discussed under this heading. NEW BUSINESS Successor for Mrs. Kirkbride, Research Assistant. Dr. Richard Tyler, Historian. It was reported to the Board that the process of finding a replacement for Mrs. Kirkbride was proceeding at a slow pace and that the appointment of a new employee before the end of the fiscal year seemed highly improbably. The Commission is asking for applicants having a bachelor's degree in American Studies, American History, or architecture; some graduate work, in the aforementioned fields of study; and a competence in architecture as history

The staff is hoping to obtain someone with a knowledge in post- 1850 architectural design. Given the choice of accepting an existing list of persons, qualified under an examination given by the Fairmount Park Commission last year, and arranging for a new set of criteria and a new examination, the staff recommended the latter. The Commission agreed to ask Mrs. Kirkbride to remain in her capacity with the Commission until arrangements could be made to prepare new specifications, advertise the position, and select a candidate as her replacement. Mrs. Kirkbride has expressed to the staff her willingness to stay with the Commission until the position is filled. Mr. Tyler also reported to the Board Mrs. DiFrancesco's transfer to another City department. The Department of Public Property is presently arranging to have the position of Clerk Stenographer II approved by the appropriate departments and filled as soon as possible. Mr. Hickey agreed to expedite both matters, if this is necessary. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:15 P.M.
