THE MINUTES OF THE ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE MEETING, 26 July, 1962 Present were: Mr. George K. Trautwein, Chairman Mr. Charles E. Peterson Also present: Mr. John F. Lloyd, Redevelopment Authority Dr. Margaret B. Tinkcom, Historian Mrs. Charles J. Haurer, Secretary SUBMISSIONS 238 Stamper Street. The door trim is incorrect. This feature is rejected and it is recommended that the trim be more simple, using mouldings identical to those around the windows. It was suggested that the owner view the door frame at 320 Delancey Street, which has mouldings more appropriate than those submitted. Profile of door panels are to match the shutters which are original. 208 S. Quince Street. The drawing for the shutters is approved, except that the pattern has to be placed at a height to make operation of the shutters possible. 338 South Twelfth Street. The window on the Panama Street facade at the fourth floor level must be consistent with those on the 12th street facade. 1016 Pine Street. The Committee is pleased with the drawing and it is approved. It is suggested, however, that the two doors would be more secure and their appearance would be more authentic if there were more wood and less glass. The other suggestion is that the panels above the doors be made of glass, not wood, giving more light and also being useful for the period. 1018 Waverly Street. The Committee emphasized the fact that it reviewed the plans only as they relate to the Waverly Street facade. It recommends that there be no box for the cornice as a careful comparison of houses adjacent to it show all cornices to be of brick and extremely simple. Therefore, the cornice of 1018 should conform. Drawing of the shutters must in a larger scale, as per regulations, and must show profiles. In the present drawing, the hardware is indicated at a level too high for easy closing. The shutters must be fully operable. Vernon Mansion. It is recommended that the Department of Recreation be thanked for submitting the plans. The Commission assures from the specifications that no structural changes are involved, but only painting and landscaping. PLAQUES REQUESTED 8314, 8316 Germantown Avenue. Inasmuch as the doors, doorways and other details are much altered from their original appearance, a plaque is not authorized. Architectural Committee Meeting, 26 July, 1962 Continued Query: The owner of 528 Delancey Street asks if an air conditioner may be installed in one of the third story front windows. The Redevelopment Authority permits these units only if they do not protrude more than one inch beyond the facade. The Commission concurs. It was resolved that, in Mr. Simon's absence, the letters written to the owners and architects stemming from this meeting, are to be signed by Mrs. Maurer, Secretary, on behalf of the Architectural Committee.
