Maurer, Secretary SUBMISSIONS 272-274, 276-278 South Second Street. It was the considered opinion of the Committee that this drawing had insufficient detail and it was recommended that another drawing be prepared, based on available data. 229 Spruce Street. A letter requesting consideration of a new building in lieu of a restoration of the existing structure, of which very little original fabric remains, was read with interest. It was recommended that Mr. Oscar I. Stern be advised that the Commission insists on it knowing in detail what is proposed for the site; that the Commission will agree to the proposal to demolition of 229 Spruce only if it can approve the new building. 231 Spruce Street. In general, the plans are approved, but the Committee asks for details of all moldings, and recommends that the building be restored to its 1813 period, for which there is a survey describing the doorway with pediment and pilasters. This must be included in the next drawing. 309 Spruce Street. This second submission is approved in general with a request for more details, particularly moldings for the shutters. A supplement to this drawing is required. 502 Spruce Street. It is recommended that the facade and molding details be presented in larger scale, with the comment that the submission is generally approved but cannot be acted upon until the additional details are available. 108 Delancey Street. This second submission is a great advance on an earlier presentation, but the Committee recommends larger scale for required details. The architect is to be advised that rough drawings of profiles will be acceptable in this case, and he shall be asked to explore the surface beneath the existing rough-cast to see whether there be evidence of a pentease. 415 Fine Street. This is generally approved, but the Commission asks for profiles of all moldings not covered in this submission. Insufficient details available on which to judge the drawings. The Commission regrets she radical alterations to the rear of the buildings. Profiles of all mouldings of doors and windows and shutters required. 1230 Pine Street. The architect is to be commended for his drawing, but the door needs further study. It is recommended that this shop-front be made to follow trends illustrated in Nicholas Wainwright's PHILADELPHIA IN THE ROMANTIC AGE OF LITHOGRAPHY and the period of the house, established to be about 1830. Broad and Pine Street. The Committee understands that the new building, proposed for the south courtyard of the Museum College of art cannot be seen from the street. It therefore offers no objection to it. 5139 Germantown Avenue. This second submission is rejected with the recommendation that the owner leave the present facade as it is, until such time as a complete restoration is considered. 301 South Camac Street. It is recommended that the owner have a measured drawing made of the existing shutters, showing all profiles, so that they can be precisely duplicated, since they are unfit for repair. Approval for a plaque is contingent upon a clear 8" x 5-inch photograph. 243 South Quince Street. Plaque not approved in view of rules which govern its authorization.
