MINUTES OF THE HISTORICAL VALUES COMMITTEE 20 February 1961 Present: Dr. Nichols, chairman Mrs. Dilworth Mr. Williams Dr. Tinkcom, historian Permission was given the Commission to examine the Girard Papers and, as a result, Mr. Fuller discovered that Joseph Bonaparte did indeed occupy 260 S. Ninth St. It is, therefore, recommended that the Commission certify this building. The Historical Committee further recommends that the Commission's chairman, Mr. Simon, write to Mr. Diemand, president of the board of trustees of Girard College, thanking him for the courtesy shown Mr. Fuller and reminding him that the Girard Papers contain an enormous amount of material of major importance to the history of Philadelphia and inquiring whether something can be done to make this material more readily accessible to competent scholars. It was proposed that the Commission consider giving a citation for a certified building which, although well maintained, does not merit a plaque. The Committee also recommends that the Historical Commission consider sponsoring a series of exhibitions next fall, organized around the theme "Know your Philadelphia," and that Mr. Batten be asked to take charge of these.
