Smith, Clerk All actions mentioned herein, unless otherwise stated, were taken after motions properly presented, seconded and carried. THE MINUTES for the 31 July, 1962 Meeting were approved as circulated. REPORTS The Historic Values Committee, Dr. Roy Franklin Nichols, Chairman The Report was approved as read and ordered to be filed with the official copy of the Minutes. The Architectural Committee, Mr. George K. Trautwein, Chairman The Reports were read - for the August and the September meetings. These were approved and ordered to be filed with the official copy of the Minutes. The Commission's Activities, Dr. Tinkcom reporting. This was approved as read and ordered to be filed with the official copy of the Minutes. The Chairman introduced Mr. Louis B. Glanzberg, Secretary of Robert Russell Homes, Inc., who had been invited to present his proposals for developing the area from Pine to Lombard Streets, Twelfth to Camac. The certified buildings on Pine Street are to remain and be restored; two small houses on Camac Street will be restored, but Mr. Glanzberg asked the Commission's approval to demolish 1213-1215 Lombard St. After some discussion, this was given. The Commission was also informed that Madison & Waverly Streets will be closed to vehicular traffic between Camac & 12th Streets. The streets will be maintained as walkways; however. Mr. Marvin asked if the City Planning Commission consults the Philadelphia Historical Commission when it decides to close streets. The Chairman stated this is not the case. Harbidge, President of the Baring Corporation was read. Mr. Harbidge appears to be asking the Commission to certify an
UNFINISHED BUSINESS The Delaware Expressway. No further information has been received. Fifth Street Buildings. The same Benjamin Rush Birthplace. The same NEW BUSINESS Powelton Village. A letter from Mr. Hilburn F. Harbidge, President of the Baring Corporation was read. Mr. Harbidge appears to be asking the Commission to certify an area, which it is not empowered to do, under Ordinance of Council, No. 695. After some discussion, the motion was made that Mr. Harbidge be asked to set up a meeting of representatives from the Redevelopment Authority, the City Planning Commission and the West Philadelphia Corporation. The Historical Commission will be glad to attend this meeting to hear what these three agencies have in mind for Powelton Village. The motion was seconded and carried; and a letter will be sent to Mr. Harbidge reporting the Commission's proposal and assuring him of its interest.
