MINUTES OF THE ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE MEETING 19 November, 1964 Present were: Mr. George K. Trautwein, Chairman Mr. Richmond P. Miller Also present: Mr. John F. Lloyd, for the Redevelopment Authority Mr. Erling H. Pedersen, the Old Phila. Development Corp. Dr. Margaret B. Tinkcom, Historian Mrs. Charles J. Maurer, Secretary SUBMISSIONS 112 Delancey Street. Action taken between meetings to approve the drawings, mislabelled "preliminary", was ratified. A letter to this effect is to be sent to the architect and the owner. 271 South Fourth Street. Although the survey describes a door with sidelights, it was recommended that the present door and doorway, as altered in mid-nineteenth century, should be retained. All other details are also approved. Arch Street Meeting, 4th & Arch Streets. It was recommended that the fire stairs, as submitted, be allowed. Carpenters Hall, the South doorway. The drawing, as submitted, is approved if it meets with the approval of the National Park Service. A firm directive that a building permit must be obtained at once shall be sent to architect. 229 Spruce Street. The drawing is approved if Mr. Moss can justify the doorway. Details of doorway and cornice, with profiles, must also be submitted. 254 Cypress Street. It is recommended that the present square head door be retained, although the Commission will approve the arch- head doorway if it can be substantiated by the architect. The windows should be six over six. 1219 Rodman Street. Approval is limited to the door only, and only for this property. No other alteration to the façade is presently involved. If, later, this appears not to be the case, a full and detailed drawing of the façade is to be submitted for the Commission's review. 105 Pemberton Street. No "snap-in muntins" are permitted. If the sash are to be changed, they must be changed correctly. The present submission constitutes a rehabilitation only, not a full restoration. 128 Fitzwater Street. The request is approved. 6306 Germantown Avenue, the Johnson House. The request is approved. 4821 Germantown Avenue, the Mehl House. A plaque is author- ized even though the door and shutters are not original and the cheeks of the dormers require different treatment to be authentic. The owner will be asked to consider a restoration of this house

A plaque is author- ized even though the door and shutters are not original and the cheeks of the dormers require different treatment to be authentic. The owner will be asked to consider a restoration of this house in the near future. 4825 Germantown Avenue, the Ottinger House. A plaque is authorized in spite of present deviations to door and shingling of the dormers. The owner will be asked to consider restoring the house properly in the near future. NOTE: in the letters for these two certified buildings, attention shall be drawn to the fact that in Society Hill the practice of authorizing plaques is dependent upon a correct restoration.
