Dr. Tinkcom reported to the Board that the Walnut Street Theatre Corporation felt that they could not successfully incorporate the Haviland paneling into their theatre for permanent reuse. Mr. Carood, Superintendent of the Independence National Historical Park, will be able to tell the Commission whether or not the architects designing the new building to house the Liberty Bell will incorporate the paneling into their plans by May 1. NEW BUSINESS Introduction of Dr. Richard Tyler to the Philadelphia Historical Commission Board. Dr. F. Otto Haas, Chairman. The Board members were pleased to welcome Mr. Tyler as Dr. Tinkcom's replacement on the Historical Commission staff. Resolution - Dr. Margaret B. Tinkcom, Historian. Dr. F. Otto Haas, Chairman. The attached resolution was presented to Dr. Tinkcom by Dr. Haas in honor of her dedicated service to the Commission on the occasion of her retirement. Philadelphia Historical Commission Architectural Committee. Dr. F. Otto Haas, Chairman. It was agreed that Mr. Theodore Bartley of BARBEY LONG MIRANDA AND REYNOLDS would be asked to join the Historical Commission's Architectural Committee to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Mr. Lewis Kramer of the Redevelopment Authority staff. Mr. William Wayl Project Manager of Washington Square West Urban Renewal Area, attended the Commission meeting to discuss the Authority's need for an architect to review plans for the restoration of historically certified buildings, to prepare specifications, and [HANDWRITTEN NOTES: Multiple handwritten annotations in the left margin and on the document itself, primarily consisting of book/reference notations and checkmarks (✓) or similar marks next to various Chinatown addresses. It was Mr. Way's hope that perhaps the Historical Commission might be of some assistance to the Authority in this matter. Joint Conference with the Philadelphia Historical Commission, the Redevelopment Authority, and the Department of Licenses and Inspections. Dr. Margaret B. Tinkcom, Historian. At the suggestion of the Historic House Committee of the Old Philadelphia Development Corporation, a meeting will be arranged with members of the staff of the Historical Commission, the Old Philadelphia Development Corporation, the Redevelopment Authority, and the Department of Licenses and Inspections to discuss mutual problems including illegal work on buildings, the need for permits for historical structures for all alterations except painting, etc. It was agreed that the meeting be scheduled as soon as possible. Salvage from Buildings Scheduled for Demolition by the Redevelopment Authority. Dr. Margaret.B. Tinkcom, Historian. The previous practice of the Authority to allow owners restoring historically certified buildings to salvage material from other structures scheduled for demolition by the Authority was arranging with the demolition contractor for the removal of any components to be used in the restoration of their own building without paying a charge for this material to the Authority has been discontinued. At the suggestion of the Historian, it was agreed that a letter be sent to Mr. Salvitti asking that this procedure be reexamined. Replacement for Mrs. Earle R. Eimbride, Research Assistant. Dr. F. Otto Haas, Chairman. Dr. Haas reported on Mrs. Eimbride's plans to retire from her position at the end of this year. The Chairman and the staff will consider this matter end, subsequently, report their findings to the Board. Need for Additional Office Space by the Philadelphia Historical Commission. Dr. F. Otto Haas, Chairman. The Chairman, at the request of the staff, has asked Commissioner Silver about the possibility of obtaining additional office space for the Commission. No word has yet been received. Cutoff Date for Certification Objections. Dr. Margaret B. Tinkcom, Historian. The Board agreed that if no objection from the other had been received before the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Philadelphia Historical Commission, the buildings nominated for certification would be added to the Commission's list of certified buildings without further delay. Dr. Tinkcom reported Miss Siemiontowski's plan to attend the National Trust Building Code Conference to be held in Washington, D.C. on May 18 and 19.
