D R A F T MINUTES OF THE ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE MEETING - 26 March, 1964 Present were: Mr. George K. Trautwein, Chairman Also present: Mr. John Lloyd representing the Redevelopment Authority Mr. Erling H. Pedersen, representing the Old Philadelphia Development Corp. Mrs. Charles J. Maurer, Secretary SUBMISSIONS 119 Lombard Street. A preliminary plan. The position of the star bolts was questioned. The plan was generally approved and another submission consisting details will be required. The owner is to be told that the Commission has pertinent details in Cuthbert Street drawings, which will be made available to him. 130 Delancey Street. A preliminary drawing. This is basically the same as 128 Delancey and is to be made to match it. The present plan is approved, but details are required, particularly profiles. 266 South Third Street. It is suggested that the simpler alternate of ironwork be used. Omit the external shutters on the first floor. Make all lintels match those of 264. The question is asked whether the first floor windows cannot be made to match those of 264? Other than this, the proposed restoration is so close that failure in this detail would be unfortunate and would prevent authorization of a plaque. However, the drawing is approved and a permit may be obtained. 311 Spruce Street. Attention is called to the fact that the sash, 3/3 at the third level has not been changed. Kindly furnish the Commission with this detail and a profile of the cornice. 417 Spruce. Mr. Pedersen reported on his conference with Mr. Robert K. Windsor. He suggests that a letter, stating the fact that OPDC and PHC as well as RA have given him their best advice which he does not care to follow; that his plans will be approved on the basis of their excellence, but that the rehabilitation will not warrant a plaque. It will be suggested to him that he keep the present door and doorway in his basement for the time being. 517 Spruce. A careful review of the available data shows that the present appearance of the building is incompatible with the date of the house, which is 1805. The building must be restored to that period, as required by the Redevelopment Authority. Therefore, a cornice similar to that of should be drawn and submitted, together with a panelled door with correct doorway details. Records in the Commission's office are available

the date of the house, which is 1805. The building must be restored to that period, as required by the Redevelopment Authority. Therefore, a cornice similar to that of should be drawn and submitted, together with a panelled door with correct doorway details. Records in the Commission's office are available if the architect needs them. The dormer still needs study; so do the first floor windows. It is suggested that 6/9 sash would be more appropriate. Next meeting will be held on April 23. 223 Monroe Street. Interior work is approved as indicated. Before any changed can be made to the exterior (at some future time) further details will be required. Kindly keep the Commission informed. The letter from the architect does not take the place of drawings. Kindly resubmit some with profiles. 260, 262 South Adler Street. Mr. Lloyd agreed to check with the building inspector; the office will outline the situation in regard to a permit for interior work only, saying that it assumes the removal of window sash is for trash disposal only. If any new sash, cornice details & co are used, the Commission must have architectural drawings for them. 251 South 9th Street. It is approved that the areaway may be closed, and recommended that the railing be saved. Under the "stucco" there is marble, according to an old photograph. If so, this must be preserved. Door and shutter details are available in the office which the architect will be encouraged to copy. 213 S. Sartain Street. The Commission does not approve the change in size proposed for the third storey windows. Either a sky light or larger windows in the rear would be allowed. 1234 Pine Street. The drawing is rejected. Because the proposed one story addition to the rear of the building will be visible from Waverly Street, a correct architectural drawing is required for the Commission's review. 1221 Pine Street. The Historical Commission concurs with the Redevelopment Authority that the present windows should be repaired, not replaced by domestic type windows. This corner building will ultimately be a store. 8435 Germantown Avenue. The owner is to be complimented on his sensitive drawing. If an addition is required, the Commission would approve it on the basis of the submission, but it is

If an addition is required, the Commission would approve it on the basis of the submission, but it is the Commission's hope that the entire structure will be correctly restored if any alteration at all is made to it.
