THE HISTORICAL VALUES COMMITTEE OF THE PHILADELPHIA HISTORICAL COMMISSION March 20, 1961 Present: Dr. Nichols, chairman Mr. Williams Mr. Simon Dr. Tinkcom The request of the Department of Archives that the Historical Commission decide whether the building permit records relating to certified houses, dating from 1890 to 1956, will be of interest to them was considered. It was agreed that Archives obtain a sample of these records from Licenses and Inspections for review. If the records are considered valuable to the Commission, they will be removed to the City Archives, otherwise they will be discarded by Licenses and Inspections. A map showing the certified houses affected by the expansion program of the Jefferson Hospital and photographs of these houses were studied. The Committee agreed that the demolition of these buildings should not be opposed by the Commission. The following buildings in the area between 13th and Juniper Streets, Spruce and Lombard were recommended for certification by the Historical Commission: (See attached list) Drawings of the proposed new town houses to be erected on Spruce and S. 3rd Streets were reviewed. The Committee recommended that the Commission support the extension of Mr. Andrade's design north on Third Street to St. Paul's.
