DRAFT ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE MEETING 19 December, 1963 Submission 523 Spruce Street. The drawing, prepared by George B. Roberts, AIA was approved with the comment that the Commission is pleased to have this c 1860 store front preserved. As this is not a full restoration, the authorization of a plaque will not be possible. Plaques 620 Spruce Street. A second letter of application for a plaque was read. It was the concensus that all shutters should be in place before authorizing the plaque. 318 South Fawn Street. This does not qualify for a plaque. It was recommended that the owner remove the "fake arch" and hang correct shutters to harmonize with his rather good door. The house would then qualify for an Award of Merit. Redevelopment Authority Specifications for the following certified buildings: UNIT II. 206 South Fifth Street. The Committee believes the present facade dates to about 1870. To take it back to 1790, the date of the whole structure, would mean still another front. It was, therefore, recommended that the present metal cornice be retained; that either two over two or six over six sash be permitted; that the solid shutters have "planted" moldings and the slats in lowered shutters be movable. 219 South 6th Street. Specifications as presented are approved except that where evidence exists of former shutters these must be replaced. 321 South Sixth Street. Specifications approved. 231 South Sixth Street. " " 333 South Sixth Street No specifications for this. Why? 335 South Sixth Street. Specifications approved except that the survey mentions a plain flat top frontispiece with columns. This should be re- stored. Shutters should be restored based on evidence as found in frames. 333 South Seventh Street. Specifications approved. 600 Spruce Street. Specifications approved except that the 1805 Survey mentions a frontispiece with columns. This should be restored after it has been determined (from internal evidence) on which facade the main doorway originally was located. UNIT III. 902 Pine Street. Specifications approved. It is recommended that if storm windows are retained, the word "operating" shutters be clarified. They should appear to operate, even though this is not really possible. [HANDWRITTEN NOTES: Top left corner: "Ken Hearon" and "approved" (appears to be a signature/initials and approval notation)] Draft of Architectural Committee Minutes 19 December, 1963 UNIT III 704 Pine Street. Specifications approved except that the survey mentions a neat flat top frontispiece with plain columns

this is not really possible. [HANDWRITTEN NOTES: Top left corner: "Ken Hearon" and "approved" (appears to be a signature/initials and approval notation)] Draft of Architectural Committee Minutes 19 December, 1963 UNIT III 704 Pine Street. Specifications approved except that the survey mentions a neat flat top frontispiece with plain columns over an arch head front door. This must ultimately be restored. 706 Pine Street. (twin to 704) the same recommendation holds as for 704 Pine. 708 Pine Street. Specifications are approved except that the "frontispiece to the street door with plain columns, block dentil & circular sash over the door" shall also be restored, as described in the 1811 survey. 710 Pine Street. Specifications approved except "frontispiece to the street door with plain columns, flat pediment & a circular sash over the door" must be restored as per the 1814 survey when the house was about six years old. 712 Pine Street. Specifications approved except for an "arch head front door with flat top frontispiece, plain columns" mentioned in the 1809 survey. This must be restored. 705 Pine Streets Specifications are approved. 707 Pine Street. " " " 709 Pine Street. " " " except that there should be no side lights to the door, which should be double oh "folding". Louvered shutters with fixed slats are permissible for this 1835 period. 711 Pine Street. Specifications approved. Is it certain that the cellar window wire guards are not original?. Note, 707, 709 and 711 are identical. 713 Pine Street. Specifications are approved. The wire guards to the cellar windows may be original. Please check this. It is recommended that the double doors be designed to fit the 1850 frontispiece on this 1835 house. 715 Pine Street. Specifications approved. Identical to 713 Pine. condition illustrated in the 717 and 719 Pine Street should both be restored to the 1905 photograph found in the Commission's files. All details clearly shown. 324 South 7th Street. There is no survey for this building. The Commission accepts the Specifications as presented without comment. Mr. J. B. Townsend consented to view the roof of the First Baptist Church at 17th & Sansom and to consult with its architect, making whatever recommendations he thinks advisable and will report to the Committee at its next meeting.
