SPECIAL MEETING OF THE ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE OF THE PHILADELPHIA HISTORICAL COMMISSION 30 September 1980 Present: Theodore T. Russell Wilnor, A.I.A., Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority. Richard Tyler, Historian. Patricia Siemiortkowski, Architectural Historian. Hugh Zimmers, A.I.A. and David Carp, A.I.A., to present revised plans for the rehabilitation and re-use of Musical Fund Hall. Musical Fund Hall. Following the recommendations of the Architectural Committee, Mr. Zimmers and Mr. Carp presented revised drawings showing proposed alterations to the structure. On the front facade, the architects corrected the elevation to call for the retention of the existing one over one light window sash arrangement and the elimination of the oculus within the tympanum of the arched entrance. In their restudy of the east elevation, the architects agreed to reduce the ground floor openings with their original window sash arrangement. All new openings on this floor will conform with the size and character of the existing fabric. Owing to plan consider- ations, the architects proposed closing the existing openings above but indicating their position on the wall with both a brick reveal and a variation in brick color. While the Committee members found this treatment acceptable, they recommended some minimal relocation of the new openings on this upper level. Finally, it was agreed that the small light sash as previously drawn by the architect would be acceptable although some additional study of this aspect of the total design would be desirable. The removal of the grilles within the window openings on both the east and west elevations was strongly suggested by the Committee. Both Mr. Zimmers and Mr. Carp agreed to this concession. The Committee agreed to recommend an approval of this project in-concept and the issuance of the building permit. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 1:15 P.M.
