The ayes have it and the resolution is adopted. That completes our Calendar for today. Are there speeches on the minority? The Chair recognizes Councilman Kelly.
Thank you, want to take this time to thank Councilman Kenney for the beautiful shamrocks that he's given his colleagues today.
And I want to join Councilman Kenney and Councilman Greenlee, Councilman O'Neill and Councilman Green and Councilwoman Krajewski in wishing everyone a very happy, safe and dignified St. Patrick's Day. Thank you.
Thank you. Same to you. The Chair recognizes Councilman Jones.
I join with my colleague Councilman Kelly wishing everyone happy St. Patty's Day, but also to avoid an April Fool's Day. And April Fool's would be if we allowed the sheriff sales to continue next month. There are 2,100 sheriff sales, homeowners, on the docket for the month of April. I'm happy that my Latino brothers and sisters and my Korean brothers and sisters helped us propel us back to the fifth largest city in the nation, and my Irish brothers and sisters today, too. But we must recognize that we still are one of the poorest big cities, with a 10.7 percent unemployment rate, and with a looming 2,100 sheriff sales, this is the largest number in the history of this city. And I'm calling upon Sheriff Deeley, who has done a great job in protecting poor people in the past. I'm calling on the President Judge, who clearly reminds us that Council has no authority to stop sheriff sales, and we agree, but in this time when hope is on the horizon from the federal government with a proposed program, entitled Help, coming from Congress, which could save many of these homes through workouts, we should wait. has fought on this issue has said, let's not act in haste so we can repent in our leisure. Let's take a moment, take a timeout from this sheriff sale process. If we continue this, 0.5 percent of the homes in Philadelphia will be sold next month, and that's six percent over the year if we keep that pace. We need to slow down a little bit. And enjoy the rest of your day safely. Thank you, Madam President.
Thank you. Are there any other speeches on the part of the majority? (No response.)
Seeing none, the Chair recognizes Councilwoman Tasco.
Thank you, Madam President. I move that Council stand adjourned until Thursday, March 24th, 2011 at 10:00 a.m.
