COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA PUBLIC MEETING BEFORE THE JOINT COMMITTEES ON LAW & GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES - - - Room 400, City Hall Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Tuesday, February 2, 1999 9:25 a.m. - - - Resolution 960671 - Calling for a full and comprehensive joint investigation by the Committees on Law & Government and Health & Human Services into the exact ways in which the recently enacted so-called "welfare reform" legislation will impact the citizens of Philadelphia, and how the City can best exercise all powers that it may have in easing the burdens imposed on helpless citizens under the new law, including pressing for positive implementing legislation at the State level, and finding ways in which the City government, using subsidies that may be available under the new law, can provide jobs for welfare recipients at a living wage.
