Thank you very much, Council President. I had the pleasure to participate with the Global Cities Initiative just earlier this week. It's a combined effort. It's actually a nationwide effort, but it brings the Brookings Institute, the Economy League, and the World Trade Center together to look at increasing exports in our region. Philadelphia is in a metropolitan region that ranks tenth out of ten regions. So we're last. And if we could get to the middle of the pack in terms of exports, we would create 37,000 new jobs within five years. And it's critical to put this within the context of where the economy is growing globally and where it's not growing. And so I'd out that according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, in the year 2000, 75 percent of the global middle-class consumption was contained within the U.S., Mexico, Canada, the European Union, and Japan. Twenty-five percent was contained in China, India, and all other countries. But by the year 2050, Japan, the European Union, Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. will only make up 15 percent, 1-5, 15 percent of the global middle-class consumption in the world. Eighty-five percent of the world's middle-class consumption will be in China, India, and other nations. And so it is very important that we more fully engage in the global economy. And I appreciate the opportunities that are being brought to our city through Global Cities Initiative and the steps that we have taken here in City Council in particular in recognizing the need for global opportunities, trade for bringing jobs, investment to Philadelphia. Thank you, Mr. President. One of the things that we discovered early on is that there are licenses for everything. To be a pilot, you need hours of instruction both in the air and in book manuals. To drive a car, same thing. You got to pass a driver's test. In order to make a hamburger in the City of Philadelphia, you need a food handler's license. But in order to make a child, no instructions included, no licenses required. So what we want to do in light of some of the issues that we see that stem from the lack of guidance in a home our society, whether it's in a classroom because a child wasn't taken care of at home, it's the responsibility of the teacher; whether it's in the prisons when parenting failed, society had to step in with corrective action in prison. We are offering a parenting workshop. Now, that's not a panacea. You know, different strokes for different folks. Everyone has a different parenting style, but we're offering some workshops on Saturday that talk about social media and you, which means think before you push send. And we all need to do that from time to time. What does a parent do when you go into a child's room -- and I know God knows I've explored and found things I didn't want to see in my boys' rooms. But what do you do if you discover drugs? That denial comes in, not my child. How do you react then? So we're doing these parenting 9:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Universal Bluford Charter School at 5720 Media Street, 5720 Media Street. This is going to be done by social service providers, people who are experts in the field. And God knows I needed some tips when I was raising my girls, who are wonderful, and my boys, who need help, but we all need a little help sometimes, and I hope that people come out and get some of that. Whether you're a new parent, old parent or a grandparent, come out and check us out. Thank you.

Thank you, Mr. President. On next Wednesday, March the 25th at 5:00 p.m. at John Bartram High School, the Friends of John Bartram Committee will be hosting a Parent and Family Resource Night. It will be our will be kicking off as a result of the formation of the Friends of John Bartram Committee, which Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell is an alumni of John Bartram High School, but also a member of the Committee, as well as State Representative Jordan Harris, who is an alumni of John Bartram High School. And the sole purpose is to wrap our arms around the school, but particularly focus on getting parents involved in the school. And this is a result of the several acts of violence against teachers that have taken place at John Bartram High School. So we went out there and did some community organizing but, most importantly, instead of talking, we rolled up our sleeves and started doing some work at the school. And so we're making significant strides, but this will be our first event for the community specifically focusing on parental involvement, but also community that shows if schools will be successful parental involvement and community involvement. In South Philadelphia, we have the Friends of Chester Arthur, who wrapped their arms around that particular public school, and they're making great strides. EM Stanton has the Friends of EM Stanton School. They came together, wrapped their arms around the school, and that school is also doing well. So we're doing the same thing at John Bartram High School. And, again, that's our Friends and Parent Night on Wednesday, the 25th of March, starting at 5:00 p.m. So thank you very much, and I welcome everyone within my voice to come out to participate.
