Thank you. Is there anyone to testify on this bill? DEPUTY COMMISSIONER HERZINS: 3 4/25/06 - PUBLIC PROPERTY - BILL 060262 Good morning, Chairman Clarke and members of the Committee on Public Property and Public Works. My name is John Herzins, Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Public Property. I'm here on behalf of Commissioner Schlotterbeck to testify in support of Bill No. 060262, an ordinance 9 authorizing the Commissioner to acquire from the School District of Philadelphia fee simple title to the properties known as 4800 to 4802 Fairmount and 4927 to 4931 Chestnut Street and transfer them to the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Philadelphia, under certain terms and conditions. The Department of Public Property supports this measure and, accordingly, I respectfully ask that City Council approve Bill No. 060262. I also 4 4/25/06 - PUBLIC PROPERTY - BILL 060262 ask that the rules be suspended so that the ordinance may be passed upon the second reading of Council. Thank you.
Thank you. The Chair recognizes Councilwoman Blackwell.
Thank you, Mr. Chairman. We are so happy that this day has come. We have been fighting for these so long, we almost believed it would never happen. But these are positive opportunities in my area. We're looking forward. Many of you know Terry's Funeral Home. They took care of Lucien for me, and they're going to take care of Rotan Lee as well. But they do a great job. They're going to build a great edifice. And certainly 4927 to 31 Chestnut, many of you know Building Blocks or Terry McNair and Mr. Cruz, and they do great work, and both are minority entities in 5 4/25/06 - PUBLIC PROPERTY - BILL 060262 our community and whom we need to support. So certainly we would hope that this Committee would give it every consideration, with the suspension. And thank you and thank Mr. Herzins, Public Property, for your work in this regard. Thank you.
Thank you, Councilwoman. Any questions by members of the Committee of this witness? (No response.)
There being none, thank you so much for your testimony. Anyone else here to testify on this bill? (No response.)
There being none, this concludes the public hearing on the Committee of Public Property and Public Works. We now go into the stated public meeting. 6 4/25/06 - PUBLIC PROPERTY - BILL 060262 The Chair recognizes Councilwoman Donna Reed Miller for a motion on Bill 060262.
Thank you, Mr. Chair. I move that Bill 060262 be reported out of this Committee with a favorable recommendation and further move that the rules of Council be suspended so as to permit first reading at our next session. (Duly seconded.)
