The proposed use junkyard and salvage yards and buildings is not compatible with the community's expressed vision for the stretch of Old York Road.

Therefore, the City Planning Commission recommends the board deny the requested variants for junk and salvage yards and building uses.

yeah i would i actually um my research suggested that the um that the the the zoning on this was

was still industrial um so i'm surprised to hear that from the planning commission um this

the other side of of this property is a railroad track um and and the trains in that railroad track

go to industrial, they're industrial trains that go to industrial businesses all along

the Old York Road corridor. So we're in a situation where the city needs certain industrial

areas to have manufacturing and to have the kind of businesses that help people get their cars

fixed and have parts for cars that are accessible, that they can use. That I personally

wouldn't want to put residential neighbors next to industrial areas that's the reason that we have

zoning is we're not supposed to have industrial and and residential in the same place but

apparently in the history of of this neighborhood there was always some residential and industrial

that were that were co-existing and and that's and that's um a difficult uh that's a difficult

legacy to have in this case though what mr garcia is doing is is compatible with with the industrial

use of of the property and he is more he cares more and he is more attending than the typical

person who actually operates these kinds of businesses the the folks who are are bad-mouthing

him um i think that they really don't even know him they haven't really gotten in um and and they

claim that like well he hasn't shown up at a meeting but that's not the only way that you can

get to know people you can actually walk up to them and talk to them that that's that's like an

old-fashioned way of doing it and that and mr garcia has tried to talk to people but they seem

to be very very um biased against him and it and it could be because he you know isn't maybe from

that neighborhood and maybe he's not he's he doesn't have the same demographic characteristics

that some people do, and that's a shame,

that people should be able to embrace people

who are here in a neighborhood, regardless of who they are.

there are two across the street it's about um it's almost directly across the street but it's

a you know it's a wide street for old york road there are houses um there's a small there's a

small street and there are houses on both sides of that and then behind the scrap metal yard there's

another set of houses that are like in a in a small little it's not even an alley but it's
