It's okay? Mr. President, for the last 12 -- well, no; actually eight years now, I've watched you stand there and take it. Knowing where you come from from North Philly side of town, I know it's difficult for you. In this week alone, in this week alone, we have been accused of being the worst body again when it comes to labor and not knowing what we're doing, and then in the next day we get accused of being sellouts to our people in the same week, and you stand there and you have to take it. I want to put on the record that this is the same body, the same body that when the W Hotel wanted to come here for a large TIF, we went through each and every labor contract. Councilman Henon was our vanguard at the time. And we got all of those trades to sign off on a contract. We did that. And then when people thought we were going to stop, Stated Meeting June 7, 2018 the people who changed the bed sheets, the people who take out the trash, we fought for them too. And so when that building gets built, it will be built both with good labor standards and making sure the people that do the work get their fair share too. On Monday, started by former Councilman Wilson Goode and ended by my colleague Councilman Johnson, 1,200 families from the airport are going to get the biggest raise they ever got in the history of the airport, going from in some cases tips to $12 and -- what is it? 30? 30, a living wage. We can do better and we will do better, but from tips to something where they can go home and pay the bills, that is something that we can stand on as being for the people. Me personally, in another lifetime I ran the Minority Business Enterprise Council. Based on the work of Councilman, late, great, Lucien Stated Meeting June 7, 2018 Blackwell, and continued by his soldier wife who is now in this body, and I witnessed it, the Brandywine development is one of the largest private-sector voluntary minority inclusion plans that I've ever witnessed. It is precedent-setting. It is going to change zip codes in the City of Philadelphia. There is not a time when I sat in this Chamber and not heard Blondell Reynolds Brown begin a sentence on where are females and where are minorities and end on a tirade about us doing better. So it is important for the Johnny Docs of the world to represent the trade union. It is important for my brothers and sisters that are different types of democrats to push the envelope, but it is not factual that this body has not been in and continues to be in that fight. Now, for me in the Fourth District, land of the brave, home of the free, minority and female participation Stated Meeting June 7, 2018 are putting $50 million at 59th and Market Street, and we are not afraid to walk away from a deal, close down a site if it does not reflect the diversity of this city. We were given in this agreement the ability to stop Rebuild projects. Now, what we do when the lights are on and the TV cameras are blaring is one thing. What we do when we walk on a construction yard some day in the near future and see something wrong and step to it, that's when the courage has to be there, to say that irrespective of how much my children need a track or a rec center or any of that, if it's not built with their parents, then we don't need that project. That's when the courage, that's when the fortitude has to step up. And I don't doubt not a person in this room's ferocity to do that. See, when the cameras went on, I saw Cherelle Parker hold it down and say we're not building anything. It wasn't public. So Stated Meeting June 7, 2018 deeply in her heart to do. It wasn't grandstanding. So I want to say on the record that I saw you and saw you in action and was proud to be called your colleague.

So it's a long history of this in this room, and it's not going to end today for those of us who care deeply about both things. I want a rec center. Kendrick is the second oldest rec center in the City of Philadelphia. In Wynnefield there are no fields where kids can play football. So Imma get some of that, but Imma get it with the kids from the barber shop being a part of it. I believe we can do both. Thank you, Mr. President.

Mr. President, I wanted to note Stated Meeting June 7, 2018 here this morning trying to get to our session on time, I missed a very important event in the Ninth Councilmanic District. Now, I forget what other colleagues were able to boast about having a school with a music studio inside of it, but I am proud to note that on today Hill-Freedman World Academy released an original album called "What's Going on," a collection of original student songs. Now, either you were born during that time or you heard your parents sing those songs, but to some people, they know where that title "What's Going on" comes from, Marvin Gaye and the Motown Sound. And so I want to give a special thanks to Hill-Freedman World Academy Principal, Mr. Majewski, the music technology teacher, Ezechial Thurman. In addition to that, Philly non-profit LiveConnections, and they're at World Cafe Live, Andrew Lipke, Crystal Oliver, Stated Meeting June 7, 2018 O'Reilly, who works at the Kimmel Center with them now, and Philadelphia's past poet laureate, Yolanda Wisher. Now, Mr. President and colleagues, it is odd when you hear yourself, but U.S. Senator Casey and I were visiting the school at the same time, and for those who remember "What's Going On," the song opens with a whole lot of people talking and having a conversation and you don't know who is who, but you hear all these words. So, colleagues, if you happen to listen to this song and you hear a familiar voice, that will be U.S. Senator Casey and Cherelle Parker. And so I want to say to those kids thank you so much for helping to train us and teach us how to say our names correctly in the screen. My only challenge is, I don't know how to tell people to buy it. I sent a text to a friend, and she says where can you go, Stated Meeting June 7, 2018 tell her to go on Chestnut Street and get the album. She said, they do that anymore. You got to find out how you buy it. So we will get that and we will announce that the next time, but the Hill-Freedman World Academy, 33 songs, those dynamic students. It is a special admit middle and high school in Northwest Philadelphia, and I want you to know you made us proud. Thank you, Mr. President.

I know we have a little gathering that we have that we're Stated Meeting June 7, 2018 Chambers for, but I would say 20 minutes at the end of that is when I intend on gathering a quorum so we could start the publicized Public Property and Public Works Committee.

Thank you, Council President. On Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at 23rd and South Street, we will be naming the 2300 block of South Street after late, great Honorable Lois Fernandez, the founder of Odunde. And so I encourage all of you who have known the great work of Ms. Lois Fernandez and bringing African culture to the City of Philadelphia, and the life and -- her life and legacy has been carried on by her daughter, Bumi Fernandez. So come on out and let's celebrate her life during this Odunde weekend. I'll also be joined by my Council colleague from the Third Stated Meeting June 7, 2018 District, Jannie Blackwell, as well as our Congressman Bob Brady, but we want to make sure we continue to celebrate the life and legacy of Ms. Lois Fernandez. That's all I have today, Council President.

Thank you, Council President. I just want to echo the words that were said earlier by both Councilman Jones and others in reference to work that we do in this body. I also want to thank my colleague Councilwoman Cherelle Parker for acknowledging Hill-Freedman World Academy, which is my son's school. Mr. Ezechial Thurman was a Lindback Award winner this year. He formerly was at Houston Elementary, is now at Hill-Freedman. Hopefully he will Stated Meeting June 7, 2018 with this new album that just came out. So we're hoping that will occur. Also I just want to remind for those who are listening, currently right now we are doing a demonstration with Salesforce and the customer relations management software. It's going on right now in Room 576. We're somewhat delayed by Council. So, Councilmembers, it's going to be there. Hopefully your staffs are there and really learning how we can use technology as a better way to provide information to our constituents as well as provide information between City departments. So that's going on right now in City Hall, Room 576. Also I want to remind people that tomorrow at 2 o'clock in the Caucus Room we'll be doing a screening and briefing regarding Plastic China. This is a film that's about 90 minutes long. We're doing a condensed version tomorrow at 2 o'clock. Food will be provided. Stated Meeting June 7, 2018 have a different perspective in reference to plastic and the environment once you get a sense of the documentary. It talks about the issues and concerns of plastic in the world and how that's really impacted China and also how it impacts us in the world from an environmental perspective. So hopefully tomorrow at 2 o'clock Councilmembers and/or staff can attend this briefing in the Caucus Room. And, finally, I want to thank my colleagues for supporting bills today 180392 and 180393. It continues to demonstrate our ability to promote diversity here in the City of Philadelphia, especially in reference to the LGBTQ community. It really shows that we as a city are at the forefront of promoting diversity in the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection. Also reminding people that we are kicking off Pride Month today. There's a flag-raising on the apron of Stated Meeting June 7, 2018 5 o'clock. It now also culminates with a whole month of activities as well as the pride parade on Sunday afternoon. And then in a few moments as we conclude Council, we'll be doing a photo right here with all Councilmembers to commemorate and also show our support for people of all backgrounds and persuasions regardless of how they express their gender or their orientation. Thank you, Council President. City Council has always been proactive in its support for affordable, accessible housing and homeownership. Yesterday City Council's Committee on Finance reported out favorably two bills which direct Stated Meeting June 7, 2018 to the Housing Trust Fund for the production and preservation of affordable housing. Today Council adopted an amendment for mixed-income housing bonus. As a former community activist and now a community advocate, I respect and appreciate the actions of those activists and advocates who have joined us in Council all week long. Moreover, I agree with them, Philadelphia needs more resources now more than ever to keep our families safe, warm, and healthy in their homes. For this reason, I continue to fight, as I have my entire political career, for social justice and equality. I encourage our activists and our advocates to continue to voice their support for more resources. I welcome the continued debate on how those government resources get appropriated throughout the City. But we simply cannot wait to appropriate more resources Stated Meeting June 7, 2018 the preservation of housing as our city grows more stratified and segregated each day. All Philadelphians have a right to live affordably in neighborhoods that they choose, where they can share and have access to good schools, good transit, and good jobs. Thank you, Council President, for your leadership. I want to thank Councilman Mark Squilla for the creation of the Philadelphia first equitable development plan. I want to thank all my colleagues, particularly our Chair, Councilwoman Blackwell, for sitting through three hours of testimony yesterday and for supporting our efforts.
