And A resolution honoring and Southwest Philadelphia's Anea Moore, a Stated Meeting November 29, 2018 Philadelphia public school graduate for being named a 2019 Rhodes Scholar introduced by Councilwoman Gym.
Thank you very much, Council President. This week we got a chance to hear from the School District of Philadelphia and remind ourselves what it means when an entire City uplifts its young people. I was really proud and shared, along with Councilman Johnson, to have Anea Moore 2015 graduate of the Philadelphia public schools be an intern in our offices. And I'm just so proud to see her move forward on this incredible scholarship and study onto Oxford where she will be studying, among other things, education policy, as well. If you haven't had a chance, if my Councilmembers have not had a chance to read about Anea Moore, she has had an amazing story that is a testament to truly what it means to have hope, resilience, perseverance and to know that there are great things that happen in this Stated Meeting November 29, 2018 world to incredibly wonderful people. And she was on Radio Times this week, as well, so you can listen to her interview on Radio Times. But she tells an incredible story of persevering. She lost both her parents as a young child. She gives all of her gratitude to them, that this is their award and is she shares it with them. And so, I am proud to honor Anea Moore. This is the fourth Rhodes Scholar in the last five years from the Philadelphia public schools, which is pretty astounding. I don't think that there's any other school system that can boast that much. And it's also worth noting as -- that every single one of those Philadelphia Rhodes Scholars went to Oxford to study education policy. So, the struggles of our schools, the meaningfulness of fighting for education in the City of Philadelphia has led to a new crop of leaders who are just incredible.
