Council President Verna.

Council President Verna

Aye. The ayes are 16, the nays are 0. A majority of all Members of Council having voted in the affirmative, the bill passes. (Applause.) That concludes the Calendar. Are their speeches on the part of the minority? (No response.)

Council President Verna

Are there speeches on the part of the majority? The Chair recognizes Councilman Cohen.

Councilman Cohen

Thank you. The applause was well merited. It's taken a long time, but I think we're on a road to fairness and equity in job employment. There's no reason for any discriminatory practice, and I think the two bills that were just passed are going to effectively curve the practice and make it possible to genuinely ensure fair employment practices in the City of Philadelphia for everyone. 4/3/03 - STATED - 2ND READING AND FINAL PASSAGE My other short announcement is that the Knight Ridder chain which permitted a statement to be made that they were going to take action against predatory lending is apparently not true because in today's Daily News on it is commonplace as you can find. In the Daily News there's an advertisement urging poor people to make loans which will result in interest rates as high as 500 percent. It's about time that Knight Ridder understood the issue. They've been setting it for 10 days, and if they don't know now what a predatory loan is, I wonder about their capacity to run newspapers. Thank you, Madam President. (Applause.)

Councilwoman Verna

Are there any other speeches on the part of the majority? (No response.)

Council President Verna

Seeing none, the Chair recognizes Councilwoman Tasco.

Councilwoman Tasco

Madam President, I move that Council stand adjourned until Thursday April 10 at 10:00 a.m.. (Duly seconded.)

Councilwoman Verna

It has been moved 4/3/03 - STATED - 2ND READING AND FINAL PASSAGE and seconded that stand Council stand adjourned until Thursday, April 10, at 10:00 a.m. (Duly seconded.)

Council President Verna

It has been moved and properly seconded that Council stand adjourned until Thursday, April 10, 2003. All in favor will signify by saying aye. (Aye.)

Council President Verna

Those opposed? (No response.)

Council President Verna

The ayes have it. Council will stand adjourned until Thursday, April 10, 2003. Thank you very much. (Council adjourned at 11:30 a.m.) C E R T I F I C A T I O N I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing proceedings of the Council of the City of Philadelphia of April 3, 2003, were reported fully and accurately by me, and that this is a correct transcript of the same.
