Council President Verna

Are there speeches on the part of the majority? The Chair recognizes Councilman Goode.

Councilman Goode

Thank you, Madam President. Just a reminder, there's a Commerce and Economic Development hearing at 12:30, approximately 45 minutes from now. There is a joint committee hearing at 1 o'clock, so we need a timely quorum at 12:30. Thank you.

Council President Verna

Thank you. The Chair recognizes Councilman Jones.

Councilman Jones

Thank you, Madam President. As the City debates whether we should have a sign that says "holiday" or a sign that says "Christmas" in the village on the concourse, as we debate whether there are going to be winners or losers based on BPT tax reform, I'd like to remind people that we have a 9.4 percent unemployment rate for Americans. I'd like to remind people here in this Chamber and also in Washington, DC that many of them face the prospect of their unemployment expiring, and if we don't do something, they're not going to have a happy holiday, Christmas, Kwanzaa or New Year's or Hanukkah. And we really need to take action on those things, and those things during this time of year, during the holiday season, need to be remembered and put on the forefront of public policy agenda. Thank you.

Council President Verna

You're welcome. The Chair recognizes Councilwoman Blackwell.

Councilwoman Blackwell

On note, Madam President, I will note, as was said yesterday, that we're also glad that we can continue to call John Christmas from my staff John Christmas and not John Holiday.

Council President Verna

Are there any other speeches or comments from members of the Committee? (No response.)

Council President Verna

Seeing none, the Chair recognizes Councilman Clarke for a motion to adjourn.

Councilman Clarke

Thank you, Madam President. I move that Council stand adjourned until Thursday, December the 9th, 2010, 10:00 a.m. (Duly seconded.)

Council President Verna

It has been moved and seconded that Council stand adjourned until Thursday, December 9th at 10:00 a.m. All in favor will say aye. (Aye.)

Council President Verna

Those opposed? (No response.)

Council President Verna

The ayes have it and the motion carries. Thank you.
