You are a co-sponsor of this resolution in particular highlighting the Fletcher Street Stables, which is in the Fifth Councilmanic District. The Urban Cowboy could have been titled easily the Vanishing Urban Cowboy, because a lot of the traditional stables that were found in every neighborhood around the City are being developed for particular reasons, housing, economic opportunity, and others. But it talks about the rich history that cowboys have had in this country, particularly cowboys of color. A lot of people don't know that the original Lone Ranger was an African American, modeled after a sheriff post-Civil War that was one of the roughest, toughest cowboys ever. So this kind of talks about this but, more importantly, when you think about Chamounix, Fletcher Street, or Belmont Stables, what they do today is Stated Meeting September 12, 2019 9/12/19 - STATED - 2ND READING work with a lot of young people that experience horses in a different way, and one of the things that you learn about a horse is they can tell a lot about their rider that is on their back, and there's a thing called horse therapy, that they can see kind of into the soul of the rider and they can -- if you get on their back and you're not riding them right, they will go eat grass right with you on their back. So I'm looking forward to the movie. Thank you very much, Council President. I just wanted to note that this is the sixth year of PHL LIVE Center Stage, which is really a Stated Meeting September 12, 2019 Council. I'm proud to chair, through your creation, the Committee on Global Opportunities and the Creative/Innovative Economy. Music really to me is, among many things, it's part of the economy and an opportunity for Philadelphians to work and to create an economic engine. It's always been a big part of our economy. And so it's free. It's a free platform. If folks want to go to www.PHLlive.org, they can submit their YouTube video. It's free, one of ten categories, and we will have some great music industry leaders to review those videos. There are $11,000 in prizes. I'm proud to say that we raise the money every year for this, now about $66,000 in prizes that we've been able to raise through the generous contributions of corporations, businesses in our area. An offshoot of that effort has been the creation through this body by Stated Meeting September 12, 2019 Industry Task Force, and two years ago when we formed that organization, its goal was to come up with a report, recommendations on how to make Philadelphia a more vibrant music economy city. That report I placed on your desk. It's been completed. I invite everyone to take a look at it, to read it. And the recommendations are really, after two years of work, focused on what can be done now practically. There are also long-term recommendations that are not in this report. This report is about something that people can see happening right away. I will note that we also created in this Council a task force on the television and film industry. That report should be out shortly as well. All of this to help our city's economy and to provide opportunities to those very skilled and talented people. Thank you.

I just want to remind everybody I'm glad we're having the conversation regarding voting machines Stated Meeting September 12, 2019 take the time to welcome everyone here to stop by outside the Council President's office. There is a new voting machine accompanied by a City Commissioner employee, as well as outside my office, another voting machine accompanied by a City Commissioner's employee. I would welcome each of you to test out the new machines and provide your feedback to that City Commissioner employee. And I want to ensure that everyone has the ability to have their voices heard, no matter what the language is, and to ensure that everyone has accessibility to engage in the voting process right here on the fourth floor outside Room 484 and outside Room 496.

Thank you, Council President. For over the past Stated Meeting September 12, 2019 year, I've had the honor to serve as a member of the Fund Our Facilities Coalition, which is a coalition of non-profit organizations like PennEnvironment, members of our General Assembly, both for the House and Senate, and also members of this body, including my colleagues Councilmember Cherelle Parker, Councilmember Squilla, Councilmember Gym, all founding members of the Fund Our Facilities Coalition. And so knowledge of this Coalition, but through the work of this body, for years we have provided hundreds of millions of dollars of additional money to the School District to address those issues. But yesterday we had a press conference, and this Coalition has been supported and helped organized by the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers. And so yesterday at the PFT we had a press conference regarding a very urgent issue, and we learned that a long-serving teacher in the Philadelphia School Stated Meeting September 12, 2019 mesothelioma, which is often connected to connection and being exposed to asbestos, which is a major issue in our very old buildings. And so that made this issue even more urgent. So today in Council I introduced a bill, a transfer ordinance, to provide additional money to the School District to address this issue. And for me, this is an important issue not only as an at-large member of Council representing the entire City of Philadelphia, but also very personal to me. In fact, just last night in having a conversation with my mother, who retired from the School District of Philadelphia after having served over 30 years, we were recalling when as a teacher in Olney High School when they were removing asbestos from the school and the concern that many teachers had and employees had when that occurred. And I can only think about that teacher and their family and Stated Meeting September 12, 2019 they will have going forward with this diagnosis. So this is a very important issue. I'm glad for the support of members of this body who have always stepped up to provide resources that's needed for the School District of Philadelphia, but in this emergency situation, I felt the need to take this action now. It also gives us the ability to press upon not only the Coalition members in the Fund Our Facilities Coalition but the entire General Assembly and the Governor to provide additional dollars here for the School District of Philadelphia to address these issues, which is very important to many teachers all around the City of Philadelphia, employees who work in these buildings, and also children that attend School District buildings and also parents. And myself being a parent with a child who has always been educated in the School District of Philadelphia, this is an Stated Meeting September 12, 2019 issue, and it's timely. As we go back to school -- many students are now going into their second week -- this is something that we need to address to make sure that every school building is a safe environment and not an unhealthy environment for our parents that visit, our teachers that work there, the employees that work there, and the children that are being educated in the School District.
