THE HISTORICAL VALUES COMMITTEE REPORT January 28, 1969 The Historical Values Committee of the Philadelphia Historical Commission met at 2:30 P.M. on January 28, 1969 in Dr. Tinkcom's office. Present were: Dr. Roy Franklin Nichols, Chairman, and Dr. Margaret B. Tinkcom, Historian. The request of the home owners of Trinity Place (4800 block between Springfield and Chester Avenues) that the houses be certified was reviewed. These properties built in the 1880's are for the most part in their original condition. The street itself is a pleasant little enclave similar to St. Mark's Square in an adjoining area and previously certified by the Commission. The houses are associated with Philadelphia institutions, among them, the Philadelphia Fidelity Trust, the Baltimore Locomotive Company, and the Inglis House. The Committee also recommends to the Commission the certification of 1223-25 Spring Street. This was built originally by the Friends as a school for poor children. It was later acquired by the Pennsylvania Society for the Abolition of Slavery and operated in the early half of the twentieth century as the Spring Street Settlement. The Committee hopes that a suitable community use for this fine structure can be found. * * * * * * * * * *
