MINUTES OF AN EXTRAORDINARY MEETING OF THE ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE OF THE PHILADELPHIA HISTORICAL COMMISSION 24 June 1974 Present: Mr. Henry J. Bartley, Jr., A.I.A., A.I.A., A Preservation Committee Mr. Richard Tyler, Historian SUBMISSIONS Philadelphia Museum of Art, GEDDES BRECHER QUALLS CUNNINGHAM, Architects. The proposal for the erection of a new "B" Level slab in the old garage with a connecting bridge over the pedestrian (public) tunnel to the old "B" Level was reviewed by the Architectural Committee and approved. Mariner's Church (Mariner Theatre and Restaurant), 328-332 South Front Street, CARL MASSARA, Architect. The proposal for the design of the windows was reviewed and approved by the Architectural Committee. The rendering of the mullions, etc. should follow the windows at the Academy of Music. Seaman's Church Institute, 249-253 Arch Street, CARL CHANDLER, Architect. The proposal for the erection of a fire tower on the east side of the building and the opening of a door into Third Street was reviewed by the Architectural Committee and approved. 44 South Second Street, EVANTASH-FRIEDMAN ASSOCIATES, Architects. The Architectural Committee reviewed the submitted plans and found that the door should be a square head door with a rose light transom, not an arched doorway with a fanlight. The shutters on the second and third floors should be louvered with the rail lowered so as to provide access to the hardware. The window at the dormer should be six over six. The steel beam over the present shop window should be retained and covered with a brick balustrade. The exterior steps should be either marble or present concrete, not concrete. The proposed first floor shopwindow rendering was found to be acceptable. 314 Gaskill Street, David Simon, owner. The Architectural Committee reviewed the proposal for the intrusion of a skylight in the roof.
