October 24, 1960 MINUTES OF THE ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE MEETING, October 21, 1960 Present were: Mr. R. Norris Williams, II. Mr. George K. Trautwein, Chairman Also present: Mr. John F. Lloyd, Redevelopment Authority Mrs. Charles J. Maurer Mr. Peterson, attending the meeting of Architectural Historians in Pittsburgh, could not be present. 511 Cypress Street It was recommended that the sketch, submitted by Mr. Joseph Prutsroan, architect be accepted as a preliminary drawing and the plans will be approved if based upon it. 306 Cypress Street Mr. Lloyd reported that no structural changes have been made to the front, although the work has been done without a permit. Having now complied with the regulations and submitted a drawing, it is recommended that this be approved so that a permit may be obtained. 700 South Front Street Inasmuch as a letter from the owner states that he is unwilling to restore the building, now in dangerous disrepair, it was agreed that the Commission can do nothing further. It was recommended that the Department of Licenses and Inspections be urged to exert its utmost authority. 1120 Spruce Street The unbecoming and illegal addition to the facade was deplored. It was recommended that the Department of Licenses and Inspections be asked to have the owner remove it immediately. MINUTES, ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE MEETING, continued 235 Pine Street It was recommended that a drawing be submitted by the owner, showing the points required by the Redevelopment Authority. MR. MCDOWELL'S MEMORANDUM on Special Requirements for restoration on Certified Buildings. It was recommended that this be made available to all bidders interested in historic restoration It was also recommended that Mr. McDowell be thanked by a letter, expressing the Commission's appreciation for his work in this regard. PLAQUES: It was recommended that the secretary, referring to the Minutes of stated meetings, prepare a report on this subject in order that the question whether a plaque is authorized because the building is certified, or as a reward for its restoration by plans that the Commission has approved. It was further recommended that plaques not be reserved pending a restoration. The Chairman recognized that the subject of plaques contains an overlap of jurisdiction between the Historic Values Com- mittee and the Architectural Committee. This should also be clarified.
