Mr. Bielli

Yes. In fact, in case some of these type of questions came up, I have a chart which actually goes all the way back to 1990 which shows the number of people receiving retirement benefits. Back in 1990, 28,470; today it's 34,208. Some people ask questions why their liability is increasing. Well, we have more people retiring and with life spans being longer, people are receiving benefits for longer periods of time. So, I can absolutely give you those numbers on a year by year basis going all the way back to 1990.

Councilman Henon

Okay. That would 295 be wonderful if you just provide it to the Chair, I'd appreciate it. Thank you for coming in.

Council President Clarke

Thank you, Councilman. The Chair recognizes Councilman Goode.

Councilman Goode

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Just out of curiosity, since the issue of PLOP came up. Are people actually entering PLOP.

Mr. Bielli

About four people have entered PLOP. And just as a little background, unlike DROP, you don't have to sign up for PLOP in advance. You make that decision when you come to your retirement interview with the counselor. So, maybe someone who maybe doesn't have the best health, maybe someone who is a little older and doesn't want to hang in there for four more years, they might be the type of people that would go in to PLOP and that's basically where we see it. Unfortunately, the people who have entered PLOP have had health 296 issues, so this is their opportunity to get some sort of payment and then have their continuing monthly pension payment actuarially reduced so the Pension Fund is not out that money in the long run. So, that's what we have seen to this point.

Councilman Goode

Thank you.

Mr. Bielli

And we do also make sure we advise people who inquire about PLOP because if they are on the younger side, especially if they're going to live another 20, 30 years, we want them to realize the ramifications of their decision because that two, three, four hundred dollars, whatever the actuary reduction is in their monthly benefit, we want to make sure they're making a well-informed decision.

Councilman Goode

Thank you. Thank you, Mr. President.

Council President Clarke

Thank you, Councilman. Any other questions of these witnesses? (No response.)
