Whereas, the employees of the Philadelphia prison system manages a population of over 8,000 inmates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year; and...
Whereas, these employees are responsible for the safety, security, dignity and well-being of Stated - 5/5/05 those who are charged to their care; Whereas, by carrying out their duties effectively, the men and women who work in the Philadelphia prison systems are protecting our communities and enabling the smooth function of the criminal justice system.
And whereas, within a controlled environment, our correctional employees provide the guidance, instruction, skills and opportunities that allow people to remake their lives and reconnect with their families and communities. And whereas, our correctional employees have demonstrated a vision of a correctional system that works hand in hand with our communities and neighborhoods, to support and encourage those who change their lives and begin to reach the promise and potential that is with each of us. Good morning. I'm going to be very brief and just thank City Council on behalf of the employees Stated - 5/5/05 of the Philadelphia prison system for this resolution, recognizing all the hard work that the 2,200 employees of the Philadelphia prisons do on a daily basis. And I'll be very happy to take this back to the prison system campus and display it where everybody can see it.

I just wanted a clarification, Madam President. I understand at the committee hearing there was an agreement to not have... I would appreciate it for the record the Chairman of that committee stating how that particular bill is going or that particular issue is going to be resolved because there was some disagreement about that. And we're waiting for a briefing whether we're going to have first reading or not. I'd appreciate that be clarified for the record.
The bill was reported out of committee without a request to... rules regarding second reading -first reading. We've decided that we would have a briefing before this bill would come out for second reading and final passage, so there was no rule suspension for first reading. And you did not say first reading. You said Stated - 5/5/05 first reading for next week, not today. I don't know whether the Councilman heard that or not.
