Councilmember Landau

Thank you. And not only do I want to echo what my colleague Nina Ahmed said about how important it is for you to have access to a great education and your teachers and your professors, I want to say that it is hasn't gone unnoticed for us that in the past couple of days, when we've been hearing testimony from the school district, from community college, from so many advocates that are trying to make sure that we have institutions 4/3/24 - WHOLE - BILL 240179, ETC. that are well funded and producing great scholars, it has not gone unnoticed for us of how many people have talked about homeless youth, both in high school and lower grades, and also at CCP. It is heartbreaking to hear your stories, the struggles you have to go through in order to just live full lives and to get your education. And I promise you, we are going to work on this. I promise you that we want to make sure that everybody has a roof over their heads and can get a good meal and get to school and do exactly what we know what you're going to do when you get there with all the support that you need. So thank you so much for coming out.

Council President Johnson

Chair recognizes Councilmember Katherine Gilmore Richardson.

Councilmember Richardson

Yes. I too wanted to just thank our colleagues as well for your remarks and just echo their sentiments and really thanking all the young people who are here. And also, I see Philly Thrive here, our environmental activists, and -- we work with all 4/3/24 - WHOLE - BILL 240179, ETC. of you, but particularly to the students, continue to raise your voices, continue to be civically involved and engaged, and know that you too can make a difference in this process, not just in your communities, but also politically. And we know that we have Queen here, and we thank you for the work that you do as well, but each and every one of you who are here, too many to name, we are so appreciative of the advocacy. I have to say, for the Central students who are here, I am a proud alumna of the Philadelphia High School for Girls, class of 245. And so we often had the opportunity to work with our fellow Central Lancers and have the opportunity to attend some of your games. And so we're really, really appreciative, appreciative of you all being here and taking the time out to participate in local government and politics. And I know each of you have very bright futures and careers ahead of you. Thank you very, very much.

Council President Johnson

Thank you. Hearing none, okay, we will take a short recess before we -- Councilmember Thomas. 4/3/24 - WHOLE - BILL 240179, ETC.

Councilmember Thomas

Last thing. I agree with all of my colleagues. As you go on your journey, use City Council as well for internships. We're always looking for young people and college students to participate in internships, to learn how your government works and then use the things that you learn to put yourself in a position to further your professional career. So, like everybody else said, thank you so much for being here, to everybody who came to testify. But those of us who are in City Council often knows that when young people come down, it's just a little extra special. So thank you all. We appreciate it.

Council President Johnson
