Today I introduced a bill to extend the opportunity for individuals who want to apply for the LOOP program, which is necessarily needed. You know I've always been an advocate in making sure that long-term residents have an opportunity to stay in their home, and so we want to make sure that the unintended consequence of higher taxes in certain neighborhoods throughout the 2nd Councilmanic District doesn't result in individuals losing their home. So we want to encourage as many people as possible to participate in the LOOP tax relief program. On another note, two days ago there was a memorial service for a young in the southwest part of my district. He was born and raised in South Philadelphia and he was known as "Dirt Bike Rell," and a lot of young people came out to pay homage to this young man, and it brought back a debate, a discussion that we had here on the City Council floor on how we should find ways for young men who ride these dirt bikes and ATVs, which are illegal here in the City of Philadelphia to ride in our streets, really a place for them to actually ride their ATVs, ride their motor bikes. It stops them from being on the corner, selling drugs, and we should revisit that conversation. I'm going to be reaching out to the Chairman of Public Safety and I know Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown stepped up and had the hearings. Because if we could do it for the skateboard crew, we should be able to do it for those young men who ride these ATVs and these mopeds. I think when there's a will, there's a way. And so I'm going to be speaking to both of my colleagues to address this issue. Thank you very much.
Thank you very much, Councilman. The Chair recognizes Councilwoman Blackwell.
Thank you, Mr. President. I want to thank everyone, and that includes each and every member of Council and even the Administration, for supporting the issue of having on the ballot a local school board. We won't have it in November, but certainly after today it is official that we will have it on the spring ballot. So we thank you and look forward to having a discussion about what that should look like, but at least we've come this far. Thank you.
Thank you so much, Councilwoman. There being no additional the minority and majority, the Chair now recognizes Councilwoman Reynolds Brown for a motion to adjourn.
