Thank you, Mr. President. I too wanted to take this opportunity to thank both Councilmembers Bass along with Johnson. I did not know until reading the co-sponsorship memo that the Philadelphia office of Susan G. Komen had closed. But, Councilwoman Bass, you noted for the record that this could also present an opportunity, and my brain was churning. About three years ago, the Philadelphia Chapter of The Links honored an organization called Traci's Bio, Traci's Bio, and it is an organization that is specifically geared to women of color, black women and the impact that breast cancer has disproportionately had on that community. I know Lorina Marshall-Blake was very, very active in that organization, and I know some of you Stated Meeting November 12, 2020 a resolution in Council when we honored Traci's Bio in our body. So the hope is that the resources that are needed to ensure that women are still informed and educated about the issue of breast cancer, the hope is that an African American sort of owned, founded, and operated organization, Traci's Bio, that hopefully it becomes a priority for investment from the philanthropic community, along with local, state, and federal government, and I just wanted to put that on the record and also a special thanks to Mellanie Lassiter, because when The Links worked with Traci's Bio, it was first connected because of Mellanie Lassiter. Thank you, Council President. We all know that this pandemic that we've been dealing with has impacted so many different organizations and activities that need our support, in particular the Red Cross. Blood donations have been significantly down because of the pandemic. I know myself and Councilmember Squilla have sponsored blood drives both in this building and throughout the City to support the Red Cross. As we get ready for the Thanksgiving holiday, I will be sponsoring a Red Cross blood drive. It's a Thanksgiving bank drive, and it will be held on November 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Red Cross location, 2221 Chestnut Street. I've given blood during the pandemic. I know Councilmember Squilla has done as well, as well as others. You can do it in a safe environment. The Red Cross takes significant precautions to Stated Meeting November 12, 2020 is safe. In particular, if you have a type of blood that's really needed, especially for all of the people that donate blood is so important, what the Red Cross has done more recently is that after you give blood, they give you an e-mail confirmation giving you specific information how your blood has helped some person, and it's so vital, especially during this time when we're dealing with this surge of the pandemic throughout the City of Philadelphia and throughout our nation. One, on behalf of all of us, I'd actually like to congratulate Councilmember Derek Green in becoming President of the Pennsylvania Municipal League. So congratulations to you, Derek. I also want to mention, I watched Councilmember Maria Quinones-Sanchez do her magic in the Housing Committee recently, much behind the scenes, doing an unbelievable thing to help on this eviction matter, and I just want to say thank you to her for all her work and efforts. So Councilmember Domb and Councilwoman Katherine Gilmore Richardson, thank you so much for giving us an update on sort of the work on the Housing Committee Stated Meeting November 12, 2020 of evictions. Mr. President, I remember probably about maybe two or three sessions ago, I had mentioned on the record -- because, again, when most of the work, substantive work that's being done by our body, lots of times like people don't see it, and I was talking about your communication with the judiciary just trying to work and use another tool to address that issue. So Councilwoman Maria Quinones-Sanchez, Council President Clarke, Domb, Gilmore Richardson, Gym, Gauthier, and all members of that committee, I want to say a special thank you to you all. I wasn't there. I didn't get a chance to participate in that work, but you guys did it. And, again, once you get solutions, they're not always done in public. So thank you for the outcomes.

Yes. Thank you so much, and thank you, Madam Chairwoman, Council Majority Leader, for acknowledging all of the members of the Committee, especially the Committee Chair. I just wanted to clarify some things. This was a very challenging area for all of us, and it caused us to confront some serious questions about what the Committee and what Council's role was going to be in terms of the eviction moratorium. And as we hit unprecedented levels, as CHOP calls this a catastrophic situation, CHOP is also urging school districts in our suburbs to potentially close down, we are confronted with difficult issues. We couldn't quite get the eviction moratorium through the Housing Committee, but fortunately the conversations that we have been having ongoing with the courts through the Stated Meeting November 12, 2020 -- and I do want to thank Councilmember Gilmore Richardson for helping and being thoughtful about conversations with the courts. I really want to acknowledge the leadership of Judge Matthew Wolf, who is the new presiding judge on the civil division, and Patrick Dugan, who have been having a number of conversations with the City and City agencies. But this is going to be ongoing. I don't know where this goes. We are -- I want to thank the Council President for opening up with a prayer for our city, for people who are very vulnerable, but it is worth noting that for a large portion of this pandemic, the City that ranks fourth in the nation in terms of evictions has largely not evicted, and that's been through a combination of the work that's done through Council, through the courts, and through our City agencies. I would hate to see what Stated Meeting November 12, 2020 engage and try to go back to doing almost 1,500 a month, 400 a week, as has been done in 2019, but I know that we can work on this together, and I want to appreciate the leadership of our Committee Chairwoman and the members of the Housing Committee to engage.
