Council President Street.

President Street

Aye. The ayes are 17, the nays are zero. A majority of all members of Council having voted in the affirmative, the bill passes. This completes our consideration of the calendar. Are there any speeches on members of the minority? Are there any speeches on part of the 00069 SPEECHES members of the majority? The Chair recognizes Councilman Cohen.

Councilman Cohen

Thank you, Mr. President. I just wanted to announce that at this morning's meeting of the Pension Board, the Pension Board voted unanimously on a motion introduced by the representative of the Fireman's Union to vote the Pension Board's stock, 15,000 shares of CoreStates, against the merger. And I think that's a plus, even though the votes only represent a tiny fragment. I hope that the Mayor, from this vote, goes on. He has only got 24 hours. He has thrown away the last two weeks. I hope he throws his weight in an effort to get all the Pension Boards and all the businesses in the local area who own CoreStates stock to also vote no. You all, I think, read in the papers today that there will be a hearing in Philadelphia on March 13 to consider the local impact. The hearing will be held by the 00070 SPEECHES Federal Reserve Board here in Philadelphia. Thank you very much, Mr. President.

President Coleman

Thank you very much, Councilman. The Chair recognizes Councilwoman Fernandez.

Councilwoman Fernandez

Mr. President, I would like to offer my congratulations to Councilwoman Krajewski to being appointed to the Gas Commission. I served six years, through thick and thin. And, actually, over the years we collected a few keepsake items. So my office would love to present you these treasured items so that you can hit the ground running. (Applause.)

Councilwoman Fernandez

Could I add, this was my staff's idea.

President Street

What's that old saying about be careful what you ask for?

Councilwoman Krajewski

You warned me, Mr. President.

President Street

I did. 00071 MOTION TO ADJOURN Are there any other speeches? The Chair recognizes Councilwoman Verna.

Councilwoman Verna

Thank you, Mr. President. I move that Council stand adjourned until Thursday, March the 5th, 1998, at 10:00 a.m.

President Street

All in favor let it be known by saying aye. Those opposed say nay. The ayes have it. The Council stands adjourned until Thursday, March 5, 1998, 10 o'clock a.m. (Stated Meeting adjourned at 11:25 a.m.) 00072 C E R T I F I C A T I O N I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing proceedings of the Council of the City of Philadelphia of Thursday, February 26, 1998, were reported fully and accurately by me, and that this is a correct transcript of same.
