Thank you, Madam President. I know it's been a long day and I'll be very brief. I'd just like to commend Mayor Nutter and Commissioner Ramsey on the handling of the Occupy Philly encampment. I know the Mayor, as I do, hear the voices and concerns of the 99 percent, and we on Council even share the same sentiments on many of their issues. However, we are opportunities that will put Philadelphians to work on the Dilworth Plaza renovation project and look forward to all Philadelphians and our visitors having the same opportunity to enjoy that location. Thank you.
Thank you. The Chair recognizes Councilman Kenney.
Thank you, Madam President. I just want to reference the letter that we received from Mr. Lester Toaso, who is the District Executive 6-0, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, relative to Councilman DiCicco's outdoor advertising Bill 110563. And I do appreciate Mr. Toaso's interest in the beauty of our corridors, but if I get an opportunity now that he's written to us, at the Callowhill exit of the Vine Street Expressway, at the very bottom of the ramp, there's a pothole about the size of a little car, and if they could pay attention to that and get that pothole filled so that people's tires don't explode and fall off, that would be really helpful. So I want to thank him for his concern and help in this matter. Thank you.
Callowhill exit, right at the bottom of the ramp, off the Vine Street Expressway. Thank you.
Thank you. The Chair recognizes Councilman Jones.
Madam President, I too, like my colleague Councilwoman Tasco, want to recognize the Mayor and his Administration for their handling of our First Amendment rights it was done in a tasteful manner. The world was watching, and I think Philadelphia handled itself well. I'd like to speak, however, also on the fact that this week Mayor Nutter signed an Executive Order 15-11 which called for an agreement with the various trade organizations on inclusion in hiring and diversity. It would be a great opportunity for us to start with that $50 million project right outside our door, which is going to be a two-year project involving at least 21 trades, to get involved with the construction and to include Philadelphians, to include people from low-income neighborhoods, to include women and minorities within that project. This Executive Order calls for us to have at least 32 percent of those participants be minority males and 7 percent be women and that 60 percent of the jobs be Philadelphia based. I think this is a great pilot project to start on. with the Occupy Philly, but one thing came through in their messaging, was that more people in this country need opportunities to support their families, and with $15 million of this project coming from TIGER grants and 15.5 million coming from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, with 10 million of it coming from our capital dollars and 5 million of it coming from private-sector investments, this is a great test project, and we will be watching. Thank you, Madam President.
Thank you. Are there any other speeches on the part of the majority? (No response.)
Seeing no one, the Chair recognizes Councilman Clarke for a motion to adjourn.
